So my CPU has a shitty $35 Zalman I bought a year ago and the CPU's reaching numbers like 70C no matter what I play. Is it worth getting the Corsair H50 for decent cooling? I can get it for $50 btw.

yeah
if your case will hold it and your motherboard is compatible with it, get the noctua d14 if you can afford.
I have one with a Sanyo Denki SanAce refrigeration fan attached to it. Can get some pretty extreme low temperatures with it. The stock fan won't get you as low as this will though.

What's so special about that fan? Is it just the high flow rate?
Yeah pretty much, along with a 39 dBA (if you care about noise) although fans that size can do more than 100+
I'd recommend Rellikard, going with an industrial warehouse drum fan 40"+. Shit will blow you away..... literally.

>_>
Hmmm, don't think I have room for that along side my PC atm.
But, I just ordered a Scythe Slipstream (1900rpm) off amazon, rated at 110 cfm and 36~37 dba. If I find it's too loud i'll just buy one of the ~28 dba 80ish cfm fans.
One thing that people don't normally advertise about their fans is the static pressure of the air they blow.
Most fans will blow air out to the sides a little bit while blowing straight forward. This is not good if you're wanting it to blow directly on your heatsink.
SanAces blow a direct path. They don't blow out to the sides at all. That's good static pressure.
Where did you find an H50 for $50? The best I can find is $75 with tax/shipping.
Also, (possibly dumb question) is it possible to improve airflow over the radiator by jury rigging a second fan on the other side?
Thanks, how should I mount the second fan? Does the H50 come with longer screws? Also, would it work if I have air in from the back and side, and out from the top and front? The H50 wants to be mounted on the back and I'd like air from the side for my gpu. And one more thing, are dust filters worth the loss in airflow?
The H50 comes with longer screws, however I think you only get 4? So you may have to buy another set if you get a second fan.
Thanks, right after I read your post, I found an article on corsair's site that explained all of this after all.

I'm still a little dubious about pulling in air from the back and pushing it out of the front though, would there be any side-effects other than a warm breeze in front of the case?
Yes. You're putting hot air through your case and across other components before blowing it out.
I don't follow corsair's instructions. I got better results doing the reverse of what they suggested.
It depends where you mount the rad. If its in the front/bottom of your case, have it as an intake. If you're like me and mount it in the top/back, then use it as an exhaust.
