Halp! ISP all up in my biddness.

So, I recently moved to a new town for a new job. I previously had had Time Warner as my ISP and never had this kind of problem.

The new city I moved to only has Sudden Link as a cable provider. I download movies, PC games, and some TV episodes using Vuze. After having had their service for a couple weeks now, I went to the beach for a couple days, and when I got back, I couldn't get online and after a bit of router resetting and trying to figure out what's wrong with my shit, the image below pops up instead of my homepage.

The movie in question I actually had downloaded before I even moved so I'm guessing it was someone uploading it from me that set them off. I've never even heard of an ISP being an internet Nazi about what people do when online, let alone have it happen to me.

Long story short, aside from not downloading shit, or getting ghey ass DSL, what can I do to get them off my case? I don't want to get my damn service terminated for downloading some damn movies.

That's why you don't download/upload shit without a peer blocker.

I love how it's not even for a good movie too.

I disagree, I think Drag Me to Hell is a good movie.

I know it's not a good movie, I've been on a horror kick lately and having watching about everything I can get my hands on.

Sorry if I don't know shit about this, but I have always had Time Warner in the past and never had anything like this come up before.

Okay, so I should be using a peer blocker. Can anyone recommend some good ones to use?

Shit, I got warned for sharing Repo Men. That movie sucked...

As for what you can do. If you can afford $15 a month, you can get away from torrenting altogether and just D/L movies/music/games/software/whatever off of the usenet and you'll never get warned again, because they don't go after people who only download. You can pay $15/month to astraweb and have unlimited d/ling and you don't have to worry about keeping your ratio up. You're always going to d/l at your max bandwidth, and it's just as easy to d/l off of the usenet as it is to torrent. Go to a nzb tracker, d/l that file, load it into your usenet reader and you're good to go. I can typically find the nzb file for any popular tv show around an hour after it airs.

If you're going to spend money to pirate, you may as well just get a rapidshit account. Cheaper and less of a pain in the ass than usenet.

Eh, I find the usenet a lot easier, especially finding older files. nzb files make it a lot noobier friendly than it was 10 years ago.

+1 Usenet, isn't paid rapidshare still some bullshit like 4gb a day?

Best bet - stop pirating. And if you're gonna spend money to do it, just buy the movie/game/album. :/. But I'm sure I'm the minority here. I just don't want to lose my job because everyone thinks they're a "hacker" and downloaded shit for free.

I've been busted in the past for similar shit. You're a private citizen. Whoever tracked the download tracked your IP and as far as I know (BG Legal?) the ISP has no qualms or legal restrictions from handing over your account info to the authorities. Luckily mine was while at a university, which can choose to protect the privacy of students on their network (and they did). But in your case, I'd just count my blessings that you didn't get made an example of with some ridiculous fine, cut your losses and try to walk a more legal line for a year or so and hope they lose interest and stop tracking your IP.

If you've ever been "caught" it's because you were the slowest elk in the herd.
