Play Both FINAL FANTASY XI and FINAL FANTASY XIV, Receive Perks! (18/08/2010)

Perk 1. >> A significant discount on FINAL FANTASY XI monthly service fees!

Link a PlayOnline ID with an active FINAL FANTASY XI Content ID to a Square Enix account with an active FINAL FANTASY XIV service account to discount your FINAL FANTASY XI monthly service fees from £8.99 to £5.00 or from €12.95 to €7.00 or $12.95 to $7.00 .
    * These perks will remain available until January 2011.

    * This FINAL FANTASY XI monthly service fee discount applies to users paying by credit card.

    * No discount will be applied to a month’s service fees if FINAL FANTASY XIV is in a free trial period on the 26th of the month.

    * Additional fees will be incurred for additional FINAL FANTASY XI Content IDs.

    http://www.playonline.com/ff11eu/top.../imgs/im02.gif

If you have multiple PlayOnline IDs, you can receive discounts according to the number of FINAL FANTASY XIV service accounts you have.

    - If you have multiple PlayOnline IDs linked to a Square Enix account with a single FINAL FANTASY XIV service account, you will be able to receive a discount for one of your PlayOnline IDs.

    - If you have multiple PlayOnline IDs linked to a Square Enix account with multiple FINAL FANTASY XIV service accounts, the number of PlayOnline IDs that you can receive discounts for will be the same as the number of FINAL FANTASY XIV service accounts on your Square Enix account.

    * Even if you have multiple active FINAL FANTASY XIV service accounts, the monthly service fee discount for a single PlayOnline ID will not change.

Example of discounts based on the number of PlayOnline IDs and service accounts on a single Square Enix account:
Number of FINAL FANTASY XIV service accounts (being billed) | Number of active FINAL FANTASY XI PlayOnline IDs | Number of PlayOnline IDs that can receive a discount
    1 1 1
    1 2 1
    2 1 1
    2 3 2

    * A maximum of eight FINAL FANTASY XIV service accounts can be added to a single Square Enix account. Therefore, a maximum of eight PlayOnline IDs can receive a monthly service fee discount.

Perk 2. >> A special FINAL FANTASY XIV in-game item!

    http://www.playonline.com/ff11eu/top.../imgs/im03.jpg

If a PlayOnline ID with an active FINAL FANTASY XI Content ID is linked to a Square Enix account with a FINAL FANTASY XIV service account, all new characters created on that FINAL FANTASY XIV service account will start out possessing a special in-game item.
    * Please note that you will not be able to receive a special in-game item in the following cases:

    - If you have created a character before linking your PlayOnline ID (It is, however, possible to receive the in-game item by deleting the characters you created, linking your PlayOnline ID, and then re-creating your characters).

    - If, at the time of creating your FINAL FANTASY XIV character, the linked PlayOnline ID’s FINAL FANTASY XI Content IDs are invalid (the Content IDs have been cancelled and are thus not being billed).

    - If the linked PlayOnline ID’s FINAL FANTASY XI is in the free trial period.

Perk 3. >> Tranferal of a FINAL FANTASY XI Player Character name to FINAL FANTASY XIV!

When creating a new FINAL FANTASY XIV character, FINAL FANTASY XI players’ character names will be prioritized. The character’s name will become “Given Name: the Player Character’s name in FINAL FANTASY XI” + “Surname: the name of the Player Character’s World.”

For example: FINAL FANTASY XI Player Character name: Destiny
Player Character’s FINAL FANTASY XI World name: Odin
    ↓
Usable name in FINAL FANTASY XIV: Destiny Odin

    * Please note that you will not be able to transfer your Player Character name in the following cases:

    - If you have created a character before linking your PlayOnline ID (It is, however, possible to transfer Player Character names by deleting the characters you created, linking your PlayOnline ID, and then re-creating your characters).

    - If there are no FINAL FANTASY XI characters on the linked PlayOnline ID.

    * If you have recently created a character, transferred Worlds, or used the Character Reactivation Service on FINAL FANTASY XI, it may take some time before you can transfer your Player Character name to FINAL FANTASY XIV.

    * Users can create characters with new names, regardless of whether a PlayOnline ID is linked or not.

Interesting. I was wondering how they would approach dual accounts. Makes it easier for me to justify running both games, at least for a little while.

Well thanks SE for another slap in the face to all EU users with US accounts.
Thank god I haven't preordered the game yet.

Granted it's my problem for not wanting to spend money on a good PC to play 14 on, so I'll be waiting for the Ps3 version, but man, I feel jipped. Hopefully these "perks" will become available for Ps3 users also. Well, besides the name "perk" considering we'll be joining 5-6 months after PC users so quite a few names will be taken, and "name" "server" names are pretty retarded in the first place lol.

Edit: Nevermind, SE has a separate announcement for Ps3 version, just saw the other thread.

Well, it gives me an excuse to resubscribe for a month and try-out the September update (WoTG missions better be finished) for XI while waiting on XIV.

Really blows that it's only temporary, unless they're just testing the waters with this currently and seeing how it goes. I'm not paying the full-price monthly for two MMOs at the same time.

The discount period only seems to cover 5 months (September 2010 to January 2011).
    $6 per month
    Total savings: $30

Yay? It's better than nothing, but it really should be a permanent discount. Hopefully SE will decide to extend this discount indefinitely.

It could be read one of two ways:

    - If you have a FFXI subscription and pick up a FFXIV subscription before 1/2011 you get a permanent FFXI discount.
    - If you have a FFXI subscription and pick up a FFXIV subscription you will receive a discount on FFXI until 1/2011.

It's either a time frame in which you have to act to get the discount, or a time frame in which the discount is applied.

So about that 30 days free with the collector's edition... Hopefully, we'll be able to delay the activation of the free period. I'm not counting on it, though.

I'm seriously so God damn sick of hearing EU players whine and bitch about importing. Nearly every game with multi-region servers nowadays run completely separate from each other. (Starcraft II/WoW/Battle.net/etc.)

Stop acting like SE is "screwing over the EU" players. Play your own fucking region.

At some point FF11 wasn't supposed to be available for European region. Why do you think so much of us imported it? For teh lulz? (well, there was a good point, by paying the monthly fees with $ instead of euros, it was cheaper for us, thx SE for that).
So yeah, I hope SE will modify their mind about not being able to associate an US SE account w/ an EU FF14 account, or vice versa.

Exactly - the people who imported it did so because IT WASN'T FUCKING AVAILABLE IN EUROPE AT THE TIME! Wouldn't be an issue if SE were letting people start fresh with new SE IDs with no penalty - but since they're offering all this... they're screwing those importers - yet again.

But hey ho the same people bitch and whine if anyone dares challenge anything in the super grand awesome SE status quo universe.

Actually only 3 months since discount doesn't apply during FF14 free trial period. So Nov., Dec., and Jan.

For all the EU peeps bitching about this (think it's been said in the other thread):
Just make a dummy EU account (I happened to have a serial key lying around for EU). If you do it now, your EU account should be out of 30 day free trial a few days before FF14 CE comes out, you get shoes, you cancel EU FFXI subscription and enjoy your new feet. Sure it costs a few bucks with a subscription for a month, but nothing you didn't already save thanks to the dollar. And if you want to make more than 1 char? Then make sure to do it before Jan, 2011?

If you want to bitch about not getting the discount? We had FFXI 3 euro's cheaper per month most of the time anyway the past 6 years.

I read it that way, that you have a few months in which to pick up FFXIV. Not that the discount only lasts a few months.
