    Ffxi nvidia help needed.

My desktop is on it's last leg and I have a great gaming laptop but I've got a problem. My laptop is running 64 windows 7 with an nvidia geforce 360m. This thing should run ffxi with no trouble but I'm getting about 3 fps in crowded areas. I understand it's the drivers but I can't find drivers for a card this new for ffxi. Could I use some old drivers on this new card? Could someone make custom drivers for it? I'm lost and need some technical wizardry. If someone could please help me I would love you forever.

you're probably running into the same issue the 400 series cards are having. nvidia is working on a fix for it. there's a thread here on this forum talking about it.

in the mean time, install the beta driver, it's supposed to be better then the normal one.

watch here for more info. http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?s...=166243&st=860

nVidia sucks when it comes to FFXI. This is an 8+ month issue and they can't figure out how to beta test their fixes properly

I can absolutely confirm that this works. I've done it myself. If anyone wants to verify it, it's not difficult. Simply stand in an area that causes your frame rate to grind to a halt that isn't related to other PCs (e.g., a place with shitloads of NPCs, or a resource-draining object like a Shattered Telepoint). Watch how much it sucks ass. Then, completely uninstall your old NVIDIA drivers, reboot, install these new ones, reboot, and try it out. I promise you you're going to see a difference.

Also, I wouldn't wait for an official release. Some of the folks here may remember that, a long time ago, there was a specific release (174 or something like that) which helped FFXI run better. In the subsequent release, this optimization was lost. There's no reason to hold out when you already have something to gain.

I have a new question before I try this. The drivers seem to be for a 400 series desktop. If I install this will it even work? The reason I ask is because of the oem restrictions companies put on mobile cards. I also ask because it's for a totally different series card.

This is what you want: http://www.nvidia.com/object/noteboo...ta-driver.html

For future reference this is what you use to find all drivers including beta releases for your Nvidia card: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us

Ok I tried the drivers you suggested and they didn't really do anything to the framerate but the did break windower. If I even try to move the box ffxi is played in I get a stopped working message and I can't press the f12 button to display fps. Any help appreciated

Fix doesn't work with all cards, that was confirmed on the nVidia forum. Some users, mostly GTX 460's, saw improvement.

Wait I'm confused now... Should I be using the drivers for the 400 series or the beta drivers for my card?

Beta drivers for your card, the ones I linked. The 400 series drivers are for Desktops, 400M series are for notebooks, but you have a 300M series card. If it doesn't work well, roll back the drivers or use the latest official drivers, and see which works best for what you want. It's up to you.

If you're confused, click on the "Supported Products" tab in the driver download page, and it will list all cards the driver is compatible with.

Well it's official none of them work. I
Think I'd be better off playing on a comodore 64 than this laptop.

If I remember reading right they are putting FFXI fixes in the next driver release, apparently they couldn't get them in to the latest release (even though some people claim it helps them). So you might have to wait a few months for the next set of drivers if you can't get it running nicely. This was for the 400 series though, although it probably applies to the 300 series too.

My GTX460 with the beta drivers is performing near identical to my dual 8800 SLi.

If you're still having problems, make sure you don't have shadows on high. That causes issues nearly all the time.

Yeah I have shadows off. I don't think any of these desktop drivers are gonna work for my laptop. On the other hand can't get any worse I'll give it a go and let you guys know the outcome tommorow. Thanks for all the info btw I've never really posted to much in forums nice to feel the love.
