Live action "Avatar: the last airbender" coming to nextflix.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/io9.giz...1829139229/amp

Original creators (Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko) involved:

“We’re thrilled for the opportunity to helm this live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. We can’t wait to realize Aang’s world as cinematically as we always imagined it to be, and with a culturally appropriate, non-whitewashed cast.

It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to build upon everyone’s great work on the original animated series and go even deeper into the characters, story, action, and world-building. Netflix is wholly dedicated to manifesting our vision for this retelling, and we’re incredibly grateful to be partnering with them.”
I'd rather have another new series personally, but if this is a good re-imaging i'm all in

So it won’t be a 1:1 reenactment of the cartoon? Interesting. But let’s get to the important question here- who’s gonna play Iroh?

That quote is the main thing that has me concerned. Also Jackie Chan. With Jet Li as Ozai, without putting much thought into it.

Sammo Hung would be a decent pick but I'm not sure if he speaks fluent English.

Iroh speaks with a very stilted accent anyway. Someone with broken english could probably do fine with just a bit of coaching.

Not enough white washing in your picks. Are you even trying?

I think this'll be good. They're not trying to cram the entire series in to a trilogy of movies. There's no way they'll white wash the cast if the creators are involved, especially after that Last Airbender debacle. Can't wait to see the cast lineup.

Expanding upon the original story/characters etc could be really interesting and engaging. The issue I see could be that 10+ years have gone by since the original writing/story-boarding. A lot in today's culture is different. As long as they don't try to shoehorn in stuff that's outside core character development, we should be good.

You can make (even major) changes to things without making it shitty. The movie was bad because the writing was bad, the pacing was bad, the production quality was bad, and most of the acting was poor- not because they changed a few things or even because it was whitewashed.

Also, how was that a prison for earth benders? The show put them on a wooden boat in the ocean so they couldn't do anything. These lazy motherfuckers are out in the open on the fucking ground with goddamn mountains around them.

    Also.

I've decided if they can keep the humor with this live action, this series will rock. Man, I forgot how much I laughed watching this show.

    nope

    nope nope nope.

    noooope.

always prefaced by 'if they can keep such and such or expand upon this or that..it'll be ok'

do they ever do that tho? I don't know of a last live action adaption of something animated that's ever been remotely good.
