BG Psychology: Girlfriend dreaming I beat her!

So I'm spending the night at my girlfriend's appt. Everything was fine until we went to bed. I kept feeling something hitting me until I wake up to her elbowing me in the gut and kicking me in the shin. I nudged her until she rolls over on her stomach. Soon she starts shaking violently and moaning. I try to wake her up and she starts getting out of the bed screaming "Please don't hit me anymore!" I try to shake her awake and then she raises her fist up like she's holding a knife while screaming at the top of her lungs trying to "stab" me. I finally get a hold on her shoulders and shake the hell out of her until she wakes up crying as she pushes me away and runs out into the living room.
Before I get to the bedroom door she bursts back in with tears running down her face and sits next to me. I'm asking her what's wrong and she looks up at me and said she had a dream that we had a fight and that was beating the shit out of her. Still in shock, I asked her how bad it was: Ike Turner, Joe Jackson, or Chris Brown. She started sobbing again and said Wesley Snipes!
We talked about it for a bit and convinced her not to make me sleep in the living room. She went back to sleep not too long ago, but I locked the door and moved the knives in the kitchen just in case.
I never put a hand on her (or any woman) and we only had one big fight in the year we've been together. Has anyone else dealt with this before?

It's just a subconscious shit. You're with her, she probably watches violent shit or has fears you're going to hurt her. Hell, maybe she even cheated on you or did something else behind your back and that's her way of manifesting fear that you're going to blow your lid when you find out.

My gut is she has a history of abuse but really not enough to go on. Could be she was just having a one-time lucid dream and you were an easy form to fit into her dream because she saw you just before bed. Might even be simple insecurity, fear of committment, or feelings of inadequacy (lack of power/loss of independance) within the relationship.
