iphone/itunes problems

hello everyone

So i have the following prob, last night i tried to update my iphone(3gs) to the latest firmware(4.0 atm i think its jailbroken) and the 1st strange thing i noticed was that my PC only recognize my iphone camera, at first i didnt give to much notice so I open itunes like always and conect my Iphone and get an error that Apple mobile device was disable or turn off. So i got to the service tab in windows 7 and try to restart it but for some reason it keeps crashing.. I tried reinstallin itunes and same thing happen but if i d/c my iphone the Apple mobile device restarts fine so it must be the iphone giving me the problems.

I try the recovery thing(shutdown iphone then turn it on holding the home button) to restore the iphone to the original state itunes at 1st recognize the iphone and start dloading the firmware but when it gets to the installation part it drops and gives me error 1611 this lead to more problems because the iphone was lock on recovery mode had to dload a progam called tinyumbrella to kick it from recovery mode and it works. My iphone works perfectly with no problems to the music/browsing/ect but atm i cant do a back up or even add music. Any tips that could help me? has anyone faced the same problem?

If you do a search on "error 1611 iphone" you will get a ton of hits. I read several different solutions. Some simple and some not so simple. There were even some Youtube videos on the subject.
