Water marks under Ipad screen...any ideas?

So Saturday night my daughter dropped her backpack in the dog's water bowl, I took everything out and all seemed to be ok.

Tonight I went to power on the Ipad and there are water marks under the screen, like grey clouds...everything still works, sound, internet etc but I turned it right off after about 30 seconds when I noticed all the marks.

Is there any chance this will dry out if I leave it for a while...any chance to fix it myself or does it need to go back to Apple for a nice big repair bill?

Any help at all is greatly appreciated.

A quick google says it will. People had similar problems with iphones, and they dried out after about a week. Put it in rice or silica packets, if you have them.

I have it sitting in a sealed ziploc bag of rice right now under a small table top lamp, just wondering if I should wait out the week or just bring it in....I don't think letting it sit could damage it any further but I am not sure.

They'll also go away on their own eventually as the water slowly evaporates. The rice should help absorb the moisture away from the iPad. I would definitely refrain from using it at all until the water marks are gone. If something gets shorted out you'll be on the hook for a large repair bill.

[insert obligatory snark here about not letting your daughter carry around a $500 ipad in her backpack]

I'll make it worse by saying she is 3 she has been using it everyday for a few months now LOL.

I will just let it sit till Saturday and then take a quick look at it again then.

Protip: Be honest with the Apple peeps. Tell them your daughter fucked it up. Honesty is the best policy.

When I dropped my phone in the toilet i put my phone in a sealed ziplock bag with rice, but made the mistake of setting it near a heat source (light) that made condensation in the bag, thus slowing down the time... there was water under the screen still but it wasnt filled up like it was (i'm sure yours wasnt that bad though) and it eventually cleared up on it's own. I live in a super high humidity area so it depends i guess..

so the best thing to do:
keep it indoors in low humidity area away from heat/cold fluctuations for about a week... IF you think rice will help keep it with the rice.

I have no intentions of lying, even if I tried one look at the screen anyone could see the watermarks...I am hoping it goes away, if not I am hoping just the screen needs to be wiped from the inside/replaced.

All Macbooks and iPads come with water damage censors, so there wouldn't be much point in lying anyway.

Yea I read online that the headphone jack slot would turn pink but I don't see any signs of discoloration at all, unless I am reading it wrong online.

I peeked in the bag today and all the marks are gone except for one corner now, I am hoping with another few days rest it will all be gone.

You can pretty much throw your laptop in the pool as long as you remove the battery before you do it. Eventually once it is all dried it should still work fine. It's the power/battery that shorts out things that causes them to break. Remove the power source and water really won't hurt it all that much. (not suggesting you do this, but if you have a really old crappy laptop, it will prove my point)

Another example is you can put a working PC (-hard drive unless you use a SSD) in a bottle/tank of mineral oil and it will work fine.

Mineral oil does not conduct electricity well and thus won't cause your components to short out.

my droid went through the wash after a long night and me forgetting it was in my pocket... i had the same deal of watermarks, they completely disappeared in 4 days. The phone did not ever work again, so I replaced the water indicators with some I found online and got a replacement phone.

I did let the phone soak in rice as well.

Why seal the bag? Why not leave it open, or place it in a bowl so the water can evaporate?

My wife washed my Iphone a while back. After putting it a bowl of rice, it worked, but still had water marks behind the screen. They went away after a week or so.

Most places I read online said to seal it so that is what I did, I was freaked out and certainly did not want to replace it so I just did what the almighty internet told me lol.

Anyway I am hoping they are all gone in a day or so, only one corner left.

@Minions that video is pretty crazy, I would have been scared doing that.
