    Hatching-tide: Scrambled Eggs (03/25/2012)

High above the Twelveswood, the raven circles, evermore seeking out truth hidden amongst the shadows of the trees. In today’s edition, field correspondent Oliver Goodfellow examines the rumors that Hatching-tide is set to come rolling back into Eorzea for a second consecutive year.

Another Year, Another Basket of Eggs

Our dear readers will recall Hatching-tide, the outlandish new festival born of a dream beheld by a Miqo’te named Jihli Aliapoh. Better known as the Dreamer, this eccentric young woman claims she was visited in her slumber by twelve magnificent Archons who descended from the heavens upon brilliantly colored eggs. Inspired by the vision, Jihli set about doing the Archons’ bidding—that is, to make ready the vessels for their return. As word of her impassioned undertaking spread, the endeavor of one woman grew to become that of all Eorzea, leading to the birth of the Hatching-tide tradition.

Alas, in spite of all the build-up and anticipation, the Twelve Archons failed to appear as prophesied. And as if to rub salt into the wound, not a day after the Hatching Hour had passed, the Dreamer was found unconscious and bereft of all the memories pertaining to her labor of love, an affliction most folk ascribe to acute emotional trauma. So it was that the curtains came tumbling down upon the inaugural Hatching-tide.

While it would seem that the festival was a resounding failure, the prevailing sentiment is rather different. Of those citizens and adventurers who partook of the revelry, the majority recount their egg-hunting experience with great fondness. Even though it failed to deliver upon its declared objective of beckoning the Archons, Hatching-tide brought together the citizens in common cause and lifted morale in the midst of troubled times. And so it comes as no surprise—leastways to this reporter—that the festival returns for the second year running, that folk might enjoy a moment of respite even as the bloody-red Dalamud bears down upon them.

At this juncture, our readers are certain to wonder how the event will be held, with the Dreamer lost to her memories. Racked by the selfsame doubt during my investigation, I broached the subject in an interview with those individuals who played key roles in popularizing the first Hatching-tide. They gave me to understand that Jihli, despite having no recollection whatsoever of her efforts the year past, graciously agreed to reprise her role for the happiness of the people, a most noble gesture. As I made to take my leave of the event organizers, they presented me with a flyer featuring an all-too-familiar face. It would seem that not only decorated eggs will make a reappearance—in the name of faithful recreation, those sooty-black voidsents we all love to hate will also be returning to the fray.

    How to Participate
Jihli Aliapoh, it appears, is not the only Dreamer who will reprise her role in this year’s Hatching-tide despite having suffered a scrambled memory. Her similarly garbed counterparts will appear in Limsa Lominsa and Ul'dah as well.

Here's the lowdown on how to lose 5 inventory slots:

Each of the 3 main regions has 4 locations where Spriggans can be found and killed for eggs. Each location's Spriggans yield a different type of decorated Archon egg (colored/painted/plain/darkened) while they all drop all colors (red/blue/yellow/green/violet).

Archon Egg: Skull Valley (15,22), Drybone (39,20), Emerald Moss (19,21)
Colored Archon Egg: Bloodshore (35,20), Horizon (12,34), Tranquil (39,52)
Painted Archon Egg: Cedarwood (29,32), Nophica's Wells (17,33), Humblehearth (28,32)
Darkened Archon Egg: Mistbeard Cove (small rooms), Copperbell Mines (small rooms), Tam-Tara Deepcroft (large rooms)

Trade the following egg combinations to the NPC in town for your rings/achievements:

    1 Archon, 2 Yellow, 3 Red = Pristine Egg Ring (Lv.1 Magic Evasion +10)

    1 Colored, 2 Red, 1 Green, 1 Blue, 1 Yellow = Vibrant Egg Ring (Lv.1 HP+10)

    1 Painted, 3 Blue, 1 Violet, 1 Yellow = Brilliant Egg Ring (Lv.1 MP+10)

    1 Darkened, 2 Violet, 2 Red, 1 Green = Midnight Egg Ring (Lv.1 HP+10 MP+10)

Then, trade the following combination to the NPC three times to get 3 Odd Eggs.

    1 any decorated, 2 Green, 1 Red, 1 Blue, 1 Yellow = Odd Egg

Talk to the other "Dreamer" NPC that tells you about the Hatching Pot they are standing next to.

Click on the Hatching Pot's ??? 3 separate times to place three Odd Eggs in it and then speak to the Dreamer NPC = Chocobo Egg Ring (Lv.1 HP+5 MP+5 Magic Evasion +5)

Also, there are 3 NPC Spriggans out in the field, one in each region. The first one you speak to will give you a single Motley Egg which works as a wild card of sorts and can replace any egg in a combination when traded. This can simply save you time in case you don't feel like riding all the way out to Mistbeard for a Darkened Archon Egg.

    La Noscea: (25,34)
    Thanalan: (23,26)
    Black Shroud: (29,30)

Lastly, you can reobtain the stupid egg hats from last year by trading 1 of each 5 basic colors + 1 of the decorated ones to get the corresponding cap.

    1 Archon, 1 Yellow, 1 Red, 1 Blue, 1 Green, 1 Violet = Pristine Egg Cap (Lv.10 Magic Evasion +2)

    1 Colored, 1 Yellow, 1 Red, 1 Blue, 1 Green, 1 Violet = Vibrant Egg Cap (Lv.20 HP+20 Magic Evasion +2)

    1 Painted, 1 Yellow, 1 Red, 1 Blue, 1 Green, 1 Violet = Brilliant Egg Cap (Lv.30 MP+30 Magic Evasion +2)

    1 Darkened, 1 Yellow, 1 Red, 1 Blue, 1 Green, 1 Violet = Midnight Egg Cap (Lv.40 HP+40 MP+40 Magic Evasion +2)

(So far, I have yet to hear of anyone able to re-obtain a Chocobo Egg Cap during this event. It is likely that it cannot be obtained this time around since the "Chocobo" items tend to have a different method of being obtained than all the rest.)

There's 5, named in the same manner as the rings, Pristine/Brilliant/Vibrant/Darkened/Chocobo. The only thing I'm unsure of is how to reobtain a Chocobo Egg Cap during this event since all of the others are pretty obvious.

I was told by a friend you can't, but have no back up/source/anything other than just the hearsay.

The NPC mentions a special reward if you guess the secret combination of eggs that changes every day. Anyone know if that's something else not listed here?

Something about looking in the direction of the skyward spriggan, watching the colors of the fireworks, and trading a rare-flagged egg plus the colors of the fireworks.

As far as rewards go, all I've seen people mention are shitty mid-level potions (think hi-potion of [stat]).

Where are the "small rooms"? I walked around a big chunk of Copperbell and couldn't find any spriggans.

They're in the basement (west side) in one of the rooms off the southern wall.

Still no reports on getting the chocobo hat outside of buying it? Went and gathered all my colored eggs this morning so I just have to go fetch all the unique ones and I have quite a bit of excess. Was hoping to see it show up by now .

Sorry for the slight revival, but is it still possible to get the Chocobo Egg Ring? I've tossed in 6 odd eggs so far and nada. NPC doesn't give me an option about putting the egg in.

EDIT: Nvm, had to talk to the child, not the person you give eggs to. For some reason they weren't loading for me in Ul'Dah.

The proper order of things is to speak to the Dreamer NPC, who speaks of the Hatching Pot (big rocking bin of eggs), then obtain a total of three Odd Eggs, click on the Hatching Pot itself (which is a ???) three times to place at least 3 Odd Eggs in it, then speaking to the Dreamer NPC should trigger them to congratulate you and hand over the ring.

I have noticed that the Hatching Pot randomly looks super full and has a cover over it. I don't know if this actually means anything or inhibits placing Odd Eggs in it since I finished before I saw it do that. Also, be sure you're talking to the Dreamer NPC, which is not the NPC you trade your egg combinations to. Once you've done all that, speaking with him will give you a Chocobo Egg Ring if there isn't one currently in your inventory, no matter how many you toss, give to retainers, or put up for repair.

Edited my post. Didn't know you had to talk to the assistant. Guy wasn't loading for me in UD, but the one in LL did.

Noticed the egg pot to. Wonder if they'll add some lore to it like how they did last year when the event ended.

I have not heard of anyone being able to during this event so far. It's likely been designated as a 2011 Easter item ONRY.
