    Laptop Power Issue

So I've had some people say it might be fubar'd, but figured I'd give a remaining shot on here.

It's an HP G72, with Windows 7 on it. The only things I've ever kept plugged into it over the almost 2 years I've had it are a mouse and a laptop cooler. No hardware changes, and there have been no software changes other than my antivirus and Windows.

The other day I was using it, screen went blank. Figured it went to sleep, tried to wake it up. Power lights, fans, HDD's, etc all still on. Can't get it to wake up, so I hard shut down. It will not power up now. No lights come on at all, not a flicker of the power or link lights, etc. I've tried removing the adapter & battery and discharging it by holding down the power button. Tried a few of the top suggestions when I google'd it.

Does it sound like something that could be fixed, or what other information would I have to give. Just want to know if it would be worth taking it to a shop or should I just yank the hard drive (which still works fine in other machines) and starting with a brand new one. Thanks.

Have you tried powering it on directly without a battery in it?

Yeah, tried using just the adapter with no battery, not a flicker anywhere. Was hoping to hold onto it for a while longer, but as I've been poking inside I think I'm just going to have to replace it.

Do you have a monitor you can hook up to it? Could be your screen is dead, but you can mirror it to an external monitor using VGA or HDMI.

I do, I'll give it a try, but I should still be able to tell if it was powering up. The charging light on the side next to the adapter doesn't even light up when I plug it in.
