Mysterious Baldur’s Gate Website Launches

Fans of dice and dying a whole goddamn lot might be interested in www.baldursgate.com, a mysterious new website that obviously means… something.

Since this website is more than a few hours old, the Internet has already taken the website to task. Internet sleuths have uncovered that the website is connected to BeamDog, an online distribution website notably founded by ex-BioWare developers.

So there’s that, but the guys at GameBanshee also reached out to Trent Oster at BeamDog to get some more details.

“We’re not related to the Steam complete edition, I can tell you that much,” Oster said. “Other than that, we’re hoping to announce something soon.”

To round out the evidence, the source for the webpage also includes the following comments:

Some extremely ambitious writers are guessing that this is Baldur’s Gate 3, but I think Adam Kovic hit the nail on the head when we talked about this during our morning meeting — Baldur’s Gate is probably being ported to mobile.

Being a mouse-driven game, Baldur’s Gate is a natural fit for touchscreens. All you’d have to do is mung around the interface a little, maybe make the menu options and text bigger.

holy shit this would be baller. Just a few days ago I was like "I want to relive Balder's Gate"....installed it on my comp (can't believe I still had it). Comp flipped the fuck out. Too old to be played on newer systems. ;;

If you have $10 you don't want anymore, you can rebuy it on gog.com where it's completely compatible with any recent version of Windows.

That's probably the best thing about Gog, the lack of compatibility issues with really old DOS-based games.

Or you could just use dosbox, which is free.

Yeah, then there's DOSBox if you would rather fiddle with an emulator than fork over money. If I could find my hard copy of Ultima 7, I would try the DOSBox route, but rebuying it on gog is borderline more appealing to me then rummaging through the attic.

Not so sure this is a new Baldur's Gate, lot of talk about it just being an HD update or maybe even a iOS port or something. That said, a man can dream...

but ya this for the rest. For some reason they have ultima 4 for free, so this is going to entertain me for the next 30 minutes or so...

For U7, I'd really recommend Exult, though if U7win still exists, I prefered that. It's been some 5+ years since I loaded the game(s) up, though.

There's also Atari's $20 Infinity-engine game compilation.

All of what I've tried on my XP machine worked dandy without having to patch stuff, and DRM-free to boot. Isn't compatible with some user mods currently though since they're reliant on some of the original disc files that were adjusted or removed for this release.

Anyways, if Baldur's Gate mobile means BG1/2 for Vita, I'll be picking one up on its release. You just simply don't get RPGs of that scale anymore nowadays, and having that for on-the-go gaming would be terrific. Game view is normally squared off, can toss all the interface crap on the sides of the screen for easy touch access.

For Vita? That'd be a crazy surprise, and honestly, I wouldn't expect it. Like others said it will be either for mobile phones or a HD rerelease for PC.

It'll have to be a new game or an adaptation of if it's mobile phones. The screens on the majority are just too small for a game like that to work without the assistance of physical buttons in addition to touch. Would be too much interface clutter to deal with everything being thumb-friendly.

I think back at the how awesome baldur's gate series was, and look at all the excuses gaming companies dredge up now.. "we can't make multiplayer it will ruin storytelling elements"
