Oh god my porn was on my dieing C drive. HALP!

So when my C drive was dieing I backed it up onto a portable drive. The backup created was about the same size as all the stuff that was on the C drive. (~730GB)

However when I tried to restore from the backup onto a new drive I just put in it only restored 31.4GB (pretty much just the /user/ folder and subfolders.) I tried copypasting files directly from the drive itself, and it was going well until I told it to copy my porn and it got stuck. Perhaps trying to copy 200GB+ in one copypaste wasn't the smartest idea.

HALP. Are all my files actually on the backup I made with win7? If they are how do I get them off the backup and onto my new drive?

I think I forgot to mention, but I reinstalled windows on a SSD that I'm running off of now.

I'll check out program and see what I can do with it.

Windows still recognizes the drive, it's just that when I try to access certain parts of it it'll hang for 10 minutes or forever.

What I mainly don't understand is if my backup onto the portable drive actually backed up all my files. And if it did, how do I get them from the backup onto my new drive?

So I finally figured out what was "wrong" with the backup. The windows 7 backup process made two primary .vhd files. One was the /users/ folder and one was everything. When using windows 7 restore process, it for some reason decided that only the /users/ folder backup was important and that the other one didn't exist.

I had to go into drive management (My Computer -> Manage -> Drive Management) and use the Attach VHD option that apparently exists there. Manually point out the .vhd file and then was able to find everything on the backup. It seems that most, if not all, of my files are here. Although I can't say that they're all undamaged because it would take a year to go through all my pictures.

The GetBackData tool seemed to be doing it's job, but since I got the backup working I ended the process. It's only coded using one thread though, so it'd hang as long as the hard drive did which was quite annoying. (The drive was averaging 20-60 second response times at certain points. I even saw 90s....) This made it a pain in the ass to move around the screen lol.
