Possibly returning player, where do I even start..?

This would probably go in the RQT before it was destroyed, but I quit FFXI nearly a year ago, just after the last expansion hit. I've done almost nothing in the expansion except unlock the two new jobs.

I have a bit of time now to play casually, but right now I'm completely lost when looking through all of the massive content that has been added. It looks like everything I own is now obsolete (relic or not).

My question is: Where do I even start?

What exactly should I do (in order) to get up to speed as quickly as possible? It all just seems too overwhelming to even try at the moment ;/.

    Welcome!

It's advised to check this article: https://www.bg-wiki.com/bg/Returning_to_Vana%27diel

However since the release of the newest expansion, I would focus on these 2 things:

    1. Get to 99 (using the info from that article, but also primarily https://www.bg-wiki.com/bg/Abyssea_G...ing_in_Abyssea) on favourite job
    2. Get the newest expansion gear for the said jobs doing the new activities as they far outclass anything pre-expansion

    Example, if you're a DRK:

Apart from Ragnarok or the Empyrean Great Sword, this would be highly desirable for many

You can now buy this for approx 10-20 mil depending on server:

    http://wiki.bluegartr.com/images/thu...escription.png

NOTE: Outdated image, the actual stats are STR+7 Great Sword skill +215 Parrying skill +215

The mats come primarily from the newest mobs/bosses.

With some time investment, you can participate in a campaign-like event in the new areas to earn the currency to buy "sets" of gear which pretty much raises all your attributes across the board many folds over old gear. The plus side is this gear can be further augmented/updated.

An example of these set gears is:

    NOTE: Another outdated image, real stats are DEF:79 MP+24 STR+18 DEX+18 VIT+9 AGI+6 INT+6 MND+6 CHR+6 Attack+25 Magic Evasion+18 "Double Attack"+2% Haste+2%

I was 99 in all jobs before I quit, but apparently what you're saying:

Pick up the easy AH upgrades I can right now to bridge some of the gap.

Start working on Colonization? (Not sure what all that entails).

Get into Delve. (I need to beat one of the 3 bosses which need 100k key to enter right? What's the best way to earn that 100k fast?).

    Spam delve/colonization to upgrade Gear/Weapons?

    Anything else?

And thank you. I feel so lost .

Oh, I'm sorry, I misunderstood your statement initially. But in this case I can't speak for much but there's not all that much for the expansion, as I don't have it, but basically yeh you got the idea, Reives/Delve. I'm sure others can fill this gap for you then far better than I can, but yes that is the general idea.

    I think he's referring to reive/wildkeeper reive?

I'm kind of in the same situation you are, no rqt is driving me nuts lol. I quit just before the expansion so I'm like completely clueless with all the "gain rep x to advance missions" and shit, and have no idea what to do with reive and all that shit.

If anyone's feeling particularly helpful and bored, the returning to vana page could really use some more detailed info on wtf to do with seekers.

Anyway, thanks Stig, and anyone else that has any nice advice.

That Senbaak Nagan is actually buyable on AH or in your local smithy's bazaar. You will want to try and join shout groups for NM wins outside of fracture. They are the same thing and give the same key items both inside and outside of fracture but shout groups always do the outside ones.

The Tier 1-3 all give the same key item. The T4-5 give the same key item, so you only actually have to kill two NMs from each zone to buy all of the non boss gear.

In addition you can use bayld to buy some pretty decent upgrades and colonization/skirmish are good ways of farming that.

These will be your biggest bang for your buck to get you caught up.

If you would like more information, there's a thread specifically dedicated to returning players. You can find it here: http://www.bluegartr.com/threads/111...terans-Edition

Considering that this thread is somewhat redundant as a result, I'm going to go ahead and close it.
