The story builds upon that of the mobile game OCTOPATH TRAVELER: Champions of the Continent, adding new story content where players rebuild their town, and reinterpreted story beats unfold throughout. Fans familiar with the series can enjoy the return of its iconic HD-2D art style, the ability to interact with other characters in various ways through Path Actions, and the Break and Boost battle system which can turn the tide of battle.

Story

On that day, in the protagonist's hometown of Wishvale, the annual Day of Reverence was being held, and the town was bustling with smiling faces. However, just as they were about to light the blue flame that protects peace, the town was attacked and engulfed in red flames—Will you choose the path of revenge, or the path of restoration? The choice is yours.

During Sony’s State of Play Japan broadcast, SQUARE ENIX® announced that a free consumer demo for OCTOPATH TRAVELER 0 is now available on Nintendo Switch™ 2, Nintendo Switch™, PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store. Players can now experience the opening portion of OCTOPATH TRAVELER 0 with all save data being carried over to the full game at launch on Dec. 4, 2025.

The consumer demo sets the stage as players create their own custom protagonist and embark on a journey of their own creation following the destruction of their hometown. The demo provides up to three hours of content, with the ability to play through the beginning Prologue and Chapter 1 of the Master of Wealth, Master of Power and Master of Fame story arcs. Within those three hours, players can also experience Chapter 1 of the Kindlers of the Flame story arc, which allows them to try the all-new Town Building feature to restore their hometown of Wishvale.

Been wanting to get into the series but damn I have a mountain sized backlog and games take at least 40 hours to finish nowadays.

Anyone else decide to play this? The story is loooooong (broken up into multiple smaller stories) but so far I'm having a great time with them.

The demo was quite enjoyable, but I'm waiting for a decent discount to pick up

I started and played like the first 20 minutes. Enjoyed, but set it down for something else.

I beat it, similar charm as the other ones but I think the story went on far too long. I missed the premise of the others with connected stories, this one is a fairly bog standard chosen one storyline. Master of All is quite a drag and I felt myself tuning out a lot, but Master of Wealth/Fame/Power, Bestower of Wealth/Power, and Bestower of All felt really good.

I did enjoy the betrayal you get on the backend of the game. That said, I really didn't expect it to be so similar to Sephiroth in a lot of aspects (find out truth, burn shit to the ground, take over world by becoming a literal god, have a boss model similar to Bizarro Seph, not that that's not been done in other games, but the similarities were there). There's multiple endings, but by time I cleared it once, I felt satisfied enough, didn't bother with the others. I didn't dig into it but there's apparently a postgame super boss that uses your entire team instead of just 8 if you do all the endings.

You aren’t kidding about master of all. I did a few parts of it last night and thought I must be getting close to the end. Nope, half way through. At least I do find the stories interesting. I’ll be happy to get back to the “choose your own adventure” style of the next wealth/fame/power arcs. Assuming they work that way that is and I can do them in any order.
