    An extra bonus/incentive from besieged...

This might be old news to some, but I was pretty impressed after trying to do besieged on my whm43 (since my mnk xp and merits are capped and i no longer need IMs for anything):
Not only did I get 665 xp and IM on a lvl 43 job (on later times I got the full 700 xp too), but I got 7 (!) levels of healing magic in just a single besieged by curing generals and guard NPCs instead of people (I tried people too and never got any skillup, but on NPC it was .5 every other spell or more).

So, while I wouldn't recommend everyone try to get xp on their low lvl drg or hard to xp job (that would be leeching a bit), curing NPCs also really helps the outcome of besieged, those NPCs are pretty strong and once they are dead they are gone, not to mention how important it is to cure generals and keep them alive.

Anyways, i just thought i would share this to encourage anybody who maybe doesn't have much left to gain from besieged to still come and cure NPC generals for huge skillups (if you are whm in good xp pts and get fast xp and use regen a lot, your healing skill can fall behind easily).

If I get stuck in Besieged as BLM, I spam dia for skillups, and raise any fallen people I come across.

yeah but i don't think you get back to back 0.5 skillups in enfeebling spamming dia right? It seems cures on generals/NPCs is a special case, I never skilled up healing magic so fast in 3 years I played this game...

I did it once on my whm 40. I got around 30 level of healing spamming cure 1 on undead for 0dmg (~90-120 i think). I was getting 0.5 back to back.

I did around the same in divine spamming banish after

You get lots of 0.4 0.5 from spamming dia. I went 133->140 in a single beseiged. My friend spams threnody on his bard, subs bst, and spams charm (lol), and gets 700 every time.

    Same with ninjutsu.

I posted screens here a while ago.

That probably because the mob levels are modded to be around Lv99(cap?)
and on a 100% land spell.. like cure/banish/dia etc it will basicaly guarantee skillups since your at such an extreme level difference and landing the spells.

    Thats my guess at least.

ah wow nice. well even more incentive for all jobs then, although the cure one probably helps more than the dia or ninjutsu.
What I really wish people would spam is dispel... Diamondhide and those wamoura spikes are no fun...
I didn't notice previous post with skillup pics, must have been in the middle of other besieged posts i skimmed over =P

Yea it's great for skilling magicks that you don't normally skill in xp...like healing, or dark if you're a rdm, or enfeebling as a blm.

I wonder if you can get similar enhancing skillups by hasting/shelling the npcs?

I had a WHM in my linkshell say if you typed it out targeted on an NPC it'd work but I haven't tried it out myself to know.

Oh, you're right, I am in besieged now and it works if i type /ma "Haste" <t> on npcs (same for shell and prot), but didn't work otherwise because it would change target and tabkey wouldn't work o.O good to know. My enhancing is capped so I can't say if you can get high skillups by doing this though...

Let's discuss ways of effectively leeching in besieged.

I, for one, will be off curing NPCs while letting the mobs beat the shit out of the Generals.

When SE gives me merit points on my xp-capped job, instead of just vaporizing the XP I earn, I'll feel guilty about being a waste of a spot.

    Generals are NPCs =P
If there are 700 people in alzabi you could be leeching if you just spam dia/diaga, although curing NPCs and generals helps getting a win so i think it's different. If there are less than 700 people, and you were not going to bother showing up if not for the easy skillup, even spamming dia is not really so bad, and you're not reducing anybody's xp or taking anybody's spot... the only bad aspect would be slightly higher lag.

Targetting with the volunteer/general NPCs probably doesn't work properly because they're like a weird mix between NPC and PC, so spell macros with stpc/stnpc might not allow you to target. You can cure them directly through the menu because the game is set to allow targetting mobs with cures because of the undead curing.

The healing skill is probably because the NPCs are treated like mobs for the skillup check, and they're ridiculously high level. Skillup chance when using a spell on a mob (mob must be higher than your current skill level, just like weapons) is way way way higher than when using it on a PC, as anyone comparing skillup rates between normal party curing and curing undead mobs will see. If it works the same for enhancing spells on those NPCs, that'll make it a much less time consuming way of skilling up than cycling barspells for hours. Too bad you can't cast avatars on targets beside you

Change to merits for besieged and you'll get limit points.

That's not true. I'm on merits and I always receive XP.
