X360 & PS3: Not enough juice for Crysis

    http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/728/728629p1.html

Wondering why Crysis won't be on any of those so-called next-generation consoles?

Speaking at the Games Convention in Leipzig, Bernd Diemer, senior game designer of Crytek, explained that next-generation consoles don't offer enough computational power to run Crysis, German publication Heise reported.

Although Crysis will support both current and the next version of DirectX, the developer claims that only DirectX 10 allows the game to run as it was intended by the developers because the next-generation DirectX API, which will ship along Windows Vista, allows more effects and more objects to be drawn on the screen with a smaller computational cost for the hardware.

Diemer explained that "next generation consoles like the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 do not offer the sufficient power" to assure the quality of gameplay Crytek demand for Crysis.

"The API we tied ourselves to is not supported by either the XBox360 or the PS3" is a long way from "They lack the power do it."

What they don't want is to rewrite all their renderer code so it DOES work. They're just saying "Hey, does this more-than-next generation game make our programmer's dicks look to big, hard and meaty?"

I could probably write a Minesweeper app that requires DirectX 10 and say "Those next gen consoles don't have sufficient power to run my Mynesweeper game." and it'd be more or less the same thing.

Did any of you actually play FarCry? Was a great game that was badly translated onto consoles. FUCK CONSOLE FPSs. Aiming in an FPS was made to be done with an optical mouse. It is funny though they think that Xbox360 can't run their new game, but it runs DirectX10 stuff like the new Unreal engine fine (Gears of War, Unreal 4, etc). Crysis does look to have some pretty insane graphics though, much better than any gameplay screens I have seen for any games for Xbox360 or PS3. That is also really a bad indicator on the PS3 as well since it costs $600 and all.

    bullshit lol

I bet this is just some PR guy who just made an ass out of himself.

edit: oh, a game designer. This is the guy that draws stuff on a piece of paper and forwards it to the people who REALLY make the game

Way too true. I've never really understood the people that sit there playing Halo all day with an Xbox controller.

So I don't know what the hu-bub is, I'd probably rather not play an FPS at all than play it with a joystick. Doesn't seem like much of a loss to me.

Get the DS...Metriod Hunters is the first FPS on a console that had a control scheme anywhere near as good as a mouse/keyboard.

Though part of the attraction of Halo, and before it Goldeneye, is playing people you know in the same room. So you can smack the fucking camping in the head with your controller basically. So I can understand that...I just don't understand why you'd play it on Live.

Don't get me wrong I played Goldeneye and Halo both with my friends. It was fun, but nothing like a LAN party playing Quake was. I have a Nintendo DS and I might pick Metroid:Hunters up, the demo I played was decent.

If a FPS game is coming out on PC and console, I am choosing the PC version every damn time lol.

People that play halo are in denial, if they ever played a PC FPS, they would cry themselves to sleep every night.

I don't really see the difference btween the wii controller and your average mouse for FPS.

Think about it for a second... You move the mouse to aim, you move the controller to move etc.

Halo was a good console FPS but translated poorly onto PC due to in its development cycle they changed the gameplay fundamentally to be more console controller friendly. I do however fare quite well against friends and people online in Halo and Halo2. They aren't that hard to play.

I would like to see some console gamers compete against PC players in Counterstrike, Quake, or Unreal Tournament. Then you would see some serious massacres.

I have not played a FPS with the Wii controller yet myself. I will reserve judgement until I do so myself and not trust propoganda put out for the gaming media. I do however hope that the Wii controller is more than just a gimmick and instead a genuine gameplay innovation. The idea of playing FPSs on a console with mouse like aiming precision is definitely appealing.

A lot of people, including myself though that the touchscreen on the DS was a gimmick. Now I can see that Nintendo is putting it to good use, and its potential has still not been completely tapped. Can't wait to see the crazy shit that comes out on the Wii.

My friend owns Time Crisis 3 (or was it 4?) with a couple guns. We played every now and then, and aiming wasn't so much of a problem. I know it's a lot different from a true FPS really, especially since the enemies don't move around too much and you're in a set position. But I think it will give some insight on what shooting on the Wii will be like. The problem was that you were guessing where your shot was going to land, but that's how it is in real life so I suppose it's more of a requirement.

The Wii might be able to offer a combination of Time Crisis-like shooting and a console FPS like Halo. My hopes aren't too high though, I can't see movement being too smooth, just like in most console FPS.

I bought Hunters, and honestly, I hate it. I LOVED Prime 1 & 2, but I can't stand Hunters. I didn't last long on single player mode (but that was more because I didn't know what to do most of the time ), and I played it with some of my friends, but they all hated it and I didn't find it too great either.

I think the small screen is a big part of the problem. People move around so quick and their models are so small that it's hard to focus on them. Seemed like you were better off just rapid firing rather than trying to aim with a charged shot.

If this is true, it sucks. Let's hope they won't sell out to EA, or EA will just destroy another decent game company.
