Remember that FFXI PC I won?

It fucking sucks. It'll randomly restart itself for no reason that I can tell. Only things I use it for are WoW, photoshop, vent, AIM, downloading music, the occasional school essay when I actually decide to do them, and WoW. Or did I mention that? Anyway..

Usually it happens when I'm listening to music and playing WoW at the same time, but sometimes I'll just be moving around ingame and it'll restart. Not even that sometimes, I'll be doing something simple as browsing forums. Once it restarts, it kicks up an error message that when I ask for more details shows me this:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/Totien/Error.jpg

I've run through a few possabilies, but really I can't determine exactly wtf is wrong. The only modifications I've made to it in any way as far as hardware goes is I've put a 4" PCI slot fan under the video card, and I've got a DVI>VGA converter going into my monitor. Neither of which (I don't think) would cause the whole PC to restart. The fan barely uses any power, and the converter shouldn't effect it either. Only thing I can think of is that I'm somehow overclocking it. If that's the case, how do I fix it without having to buy a new processor.

That's so fitting that your FFXI pc doesn't work right.

$50 says they won't do shit about it either, no matter how many times you ask. 8)

Can't you just go into BIOS and put everything on default settings?

That's what I do to fix overclock booboos, that and resetting CMOS. (Little yellow pin in the bottom left of your motherboard, usually near a metallic circle thingamabob)

    Wow I'm so technical!

It's not the pc then... is a driver installed somewhere. Try this http://www.informationweek.com/shared/p ... =189400897
Then try reinstalling/updating all your drivers.

Find out who built the motherboard and update the BIOS. also find out what Chipset the mobo uses and update those drivers.

Also from the error message it could be a ram issue. Run a Ram Test to see if that's part of the issue.

Update your video [and any hardware] drivers. Nvidia has 91.47 revision released.

Bake at 350 for 4 hours. Serves 4.

I think thats your problem, Im not a big fan of asus motherboards but that has a via chipset. VIA doesnt make a good intel chipset in my opinion. Intel didnt need another chipset maker simply because thier own were really good, now that nvidia makes them, they are fricken amazing, having 2 top notch companys cover all bases.

My brother had an AMD64 with a via chipset mobo and it gave him shit just like that, he finally moved to an nvidia board and bam, never an issue whatsoever.

I have the exact same problem in the exact same situation. The sound will stutter for a second or two and then the computer will reboot. It seems to come and go for me. I'll have some nights where it will happen 4-5 times in a 4-hour raid and then I might go 4 nights straight without it happening once.

I honestly think it could be a WoW problem because it doesn't seem to happen much outside of WoW. (waits for people on this page to be opportunists and pile on WoW for this statement)

What program are you using to play music? I'm currently using Windows Media Player....maybe it could be that? I need to start using winamp just to test things.

Ask Sage Sundi, I bet he knows.

Either that or call a GM and ask them to investigate.

Your CPU is overheating. Probably a pile up of dust or a busted fan. Run a diagnostic on your fans, check the temp of them at your peak performances, see what they are right before it randomly restarts (constantly keep an eye on the temp). That or a HD problem is my only other guess. Some corrupted windows files that when attempt to be accessed, just restarts.

I had the "random reboot" problem back when I first started FFXI. It was so bad, actually, that I had to TELL people when I partied with them that I might blink out once or twice... (never stopped them, though, because I was RDM lol) Found out it was my ram. I ran the memtest.iso and it locked up in the test, every time. Replaced all of my ram and whammo! Never again rebooted. It always and almost only happened when I was running a program (not just browsing the internet, listening to music, etc.)

It's actually better to run memory diagnostics on 1 memory stick at a time. Takes more time as need to shutdown and change them in between each test, but at least you know exactly wich one is defect and can replace only that one. Also helps save time to the guy at the computer store

I had a similar problem and it was due to overheating.

SE gave you this comp? For what?
Forgive my ignorance, I just do not remember the original thread about you winning it.
