Depends on comics really. I think the old school Nick Fury was a white guy, nowadays he's black, vis-versa for Tony Stark.

Tony Stark is the only Iron Man that matters in my eyes and Robert Downey Jr. will be portraying Stark (who was white). Tony Stark was an alcoholic so Downey can draw from his experience as a drug addict to aid himself in that role. The guy is a great actor, so he should do a good Tony Stark. Special effects will decide whether this movie is cheesy or not anyway. Favreau is the director, and every time I see his name I think of Swingers. That movie was awesome.

Downy Jr is good. I liked him with Val Kilmer in Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang... but I liked him less in that movie where was the emo-college kid (and I think Val was in that movie too)

No offense, but is Ironman interesting enough to warrant his own movie? I know that they are scrambling to put any comic book property into a movie, but how many people are going to run to the theater to see Ironman? Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the X-Men, Spider-Man, and (lol)the Fantastic Four all have a lot of name recognition, I don't know if you can say the same about Ironman.

Maybe they should have made a Captain America movie (preferably one that did not suck like the 1991 Captain America movie), then spin it into the Avengers. Yes, I know that the Avengers found Cap, but I think Cap has a higher Q rating than the rest of the Avengers combined.

I actually know very little about the back story, the only reason I know as much as I do about Bats is because they practically shove it down your throat in every single medium they can.
Anyway, my point was more that he was, well, 'lighter' and that he's a lot like bats in that he's a rich dude who actually uses his cash periodically for stuff other than controlling the world and/or making even more money.

None of them are as cool as Spider Man, though.
Edit: Toby Mcguire is the WORST FUCKING PICK FOR SPIDER MAN.
He doesn't properly capture the thoughtfulness of the character and when he tries to make a snappy zinger, it sounds like a talking bird.
The man can't act his way out of a paper bag.
