    We need a wikipedia page.

it's crazy how we've been around for many many years (well ok, about 3 and a half) yet none of us get with a billion post count has taken the time (aka we're lazy) to create a wikipedia page.

Obviously it's a lot of work to track down the exact facts and I'm trying to focus on the community side rather than the linkshell side itself but a history on it can be done easily.

Another thing to add content to the page would be to summarize some of the legendery threads/events that have taken place here.

I mean, shit like this for example crack me the fuck up.

So, How can we start this?

I was thinking the same thing...

Making a wikipedia page is pretty simple.

Count me out for the inintial creation, ill edit/add though.
Every damn time I go to make a wiki page it gets deleted.

I assume history of the LS/website/bigkills/movies/forum would be a good start.

It's simple, yes, but the problem is typing all that shit up. It would take forever if 1 person decided to do it all.

Er yeah, the code and stuff intimidates the hell out of me. I mean making a page named "Blue Gartr" on wikipedia.

There are a few CS clans with odder names that are still alive on wiki.

I dont think the validaty of Blue Gartr being on wiki will be a problem at all, but it has to be taken seriously for the most part. Otherwise it's destined for encyclopediadramatica.

Most of the code is pretty strait forward, it even uses html if youre used to that.

Aside for linkshell things, forums have a lot things to wiki-ize. We have our own "memes". Even 1 sentence write-ups for each member who holds anything near a presence on the forums. Mine would be written so negatively, sounds like such fun. I'm sure someone with ffxiwiki experience could start this easily with the information ;/.

the "code" isn't that hard. I added a link to the forums on the ffxi wikipedia page.

There's just a lot of crap to cover and it can be one hell of page, but I'm not up to doing it all myself.

Well you would need people that are in the linkshell, perhaps the starters of it, to help you. They know the LS best, the history of it, the drama of it, better than anyone that just randomly browses the forums. Start PMing people.

It would be a nice idea, but like I said it has to be serious for the most part. Wiki mods are seriously the devil and arnt afraid to use all the loopholes available to them.

As long as there is a serious write up with history of everything, I think a bit of comedic relief wouldnt be a problem at all.

I do like the member specific things, could be quite interesting >.>

But to start, we'd need someone well versed in the past of the LS and can also write well. Id vote Sept, but I doubt he'll want to write >.> I was never involved with bigkills, but I always followed the BG movies, so I think an actual BG member should take care of the actual LS stuff. Forum wise it will be eaiser for some of us older non BG members to do a bit.

Not really, There are still a few people who've been in the linkshell since the start. I know most of the history.

Edwardtheblack formed it, and the second member was ganbachi (This is why he had a sack) He wanted to form an HNM linkshell and was criticised by japanese for making it mostly NA. The way early recruiting took place is something I don't know much about but I heard that edward would share his vision of fighting fafnir and nidhogg. I don't know if he was in a linkshell himself but he had good knowledge on how to fight fafnir early on.

He would occasionally tank most of the hnms because back then I believed he wa the linkshells highest tank with experience(?)

This is where someone who is more informed than me hits the edit button and corrects some stuff.

As far as bgwow go, they can have another page connecting them from the main bg wiki page but it's up to them to fill in their history. Judging from the way they have their website and maintain their forums(ex search has been down for ages), I doubt they'll waste their time writing their info and accomplishments in wow.

I think there just needs to be a BG wiki. Dunno what it'd be called... For some reason I like Wamourapedia or Wikicampa. Yincyclopedia? Purplencyclopedia? Or something simple... Unlikely, but just a thought. >_>

Well, BGWoW is still a part of BG, and it would be mentioned that many of the memeber left to play WoW I'd think, as that is part of BG's history. I mean, in Wikipedia there are lots of sections that a topic can have. If a person that played WoW looked up Blue Garter, they wouldn't understand why it was an FFXI thing.

Plus I'm sure the hardcore BGWoW players wouldn't mind tooting their own horn to write all the accomplishments. Not volunteering myself because I don't play WoW that much, but just saying.

BGWoW is still a part of BG
I think you mean was a part of BG in the FFXI sense, and the obvious rift between BGFFXI and BGWoW would probably end up with some people slanting the information one way and others slanting it the other.

That being said, there's definitely a lot to be said about the early development of the linkshell and community, especially pre-CoP. First Cassie (lol Hikaro Penta Thrust spam before TP nerf), first Kirin fight (near-disaster turned into an epic win), the actual fun aspects of the game before sky and king overpopulation and botting dissemination, and so on.

If you wanted to focus more on the website and community, there definitely wasn't the kind of cross-server communication pre-CoP like there is now, but the videos of HNM fights were a big part early on.
