Resistance: Fall of Man?

Is it any good? I have Gears of War for 360 and am on it constantly, love the game, but will I like R:FOM after playing gears so much? Getting a PS3 soon and was debating picking this up too. Really dont feel like waiting till march for AC4 so i thought i'd need a good filler, will this do it? Between this and Madden07 with friends (even though it sucks) will i be satisfied till the wonderful day in march when I get my hands on the most amazing mech game ever? There are other fun games too but I think those would be played the most, might pick up a basketball game too :D

Resistance is an awesome FPS, alot of cool guns, good online modes (40 people can get large lol).

Boyiee it is an awesome game

Not to the graphical input of gears, but it has it's own flavor of gameplay methods

The Single Player is Huge, takes roughly 15+ hours to complete on Easy, then you can go to higher difficulty levels (SuperHuman is Insane)

Online play is awesome, also due to the fact if you want to play ranked games, the server chooses people in your range, no 5 star Supreme Commander vs. Private
Theres 2 type of ranked games Free-For-All or Team Based

Free For All can range from 8-32 players
(Deathmatch, Conversion (you get 2 lives only 1 as a Human, 1 as the Chimeran (alien race) [its like last man standing]
Team Based can range from 8-40
(Capture the Flag, Breach, Meltdown,Team Deathmatch)

Theres also custom games, that players can create (most are 1 hit kill)

The great thing about RFOM is the weapons

You gain XP also in RFOM in online mode, the better you play the better skins you unlock
They have some good, achievments in the game also (Medals/Ribbons)

Most games last anywhere from 5-15 minutes each (yes that quick)
Some like CTF or Breach longer due to players skill

Hell last night I went 17 wins and 5 loses, did a 20kill-1death game just using the Sniper Rifle

If you just want to get away for a few hours and immerse yourself into some fun (sometime frustrating, which game doesn't have 0% faults) RFOM is cool

I haven't seen it nowhere else, that you can kill people behind walls with a gun that shoots thru walls lol

When you earn your rank/medals/ribbons you feel accomplished that you did it

I haven't tried it online (i don't own a ps3) but i played it for like 3-4hours on a 4 player free for all back when it was released. I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as gears (which i also don't own ). I've heard very mixxed reviews about it, but you have to throw out alot of the "bad" opinions due to fanboys who haven't played it just saying it sucks. I personally believe its not worth the money from my experience, the graphics were meh, not nearly as good as gears, and the control scheme didn't do anything for me. But to be fair, i didn't know any intricate controls other then like fire, move, grenade, and ...move.

I loved Socom, I hated FPS, didn't enjoy it very much, first FPS i played and ever finished was Black (lolEA I know)

This is my second FPS ever, seriously alot of you say, fuck the visuals/graphics, its all about the gameplay (Wii peeps), then when Resistance delivers that, most shrug and say pfft the graphics suck compared to GeOW

Once you give a game the chance of more than a week, and you don't like it, then it is not for you, but 4 hours is just a little dabling/sample of the overall game

Not trying to be a lolPS3 fanboy, or Resistance is the best FPS out there, it has it quality gampelay, and that is why people pick it up.

Both games have their ups and downs, and I can see myself playing each respectively for each group of friends. My gears friends are great, but i wish we could do more intricate ranked playing than there is now... So RFOM might be more for me. I don't see many games other than gears on 360 for me for a while, ps3 is gonna have me for a longtime between rfom and ac4 in march. It's good to know that it isn't all that bad of a game though.

I loved socom 1-3, was never that big of an FPS person either. I only played gears for a short time also, and i understand that 4hours really isn't alot of time (which is why i included that in my post), i just felt gears was alot more...fun. I heard the Resistance single player was amazing, although never tried it myself.

It was pretty mediocre, it was my first online FPS. I've played shooters since '02 and I guess I was just used to killing people with only a few bullets, Resistance however decided to shit all over that idea. No long range shots with an assault rifle really really sucks, only way you'd get kills was to get close to point blank and even then you'd need to unload almost a full clip to drop someone.

I wasn't sure what they were thinking when they decided to spread the guns out all over the map and give you one default selection. Would have been nice if you could at least keep the guns you picked up after you died though.

My ps3 is collecting dust because I couldn't get into the game, hopefully with Vegas and MLB 07 coming out next month it changes.

Right. I have Gears and play constantly, it wont start collecting dust until the sequel comes out. I like ranked games which is why RFOM will probably keep my attention till AC4, was just hoping that was at least for the most part true. Gears needs to make ranked more attractive cause player matches are only so fun for me =/

I just want a good filler really, and it seems like it'll do the trick. Vegas and MLB always fun, not sure what else to pick up though.

My question to you is, if you are an Armored Core nut, I'm sure you know it's coming out on 360 and PS3 in March. If you know this what is the reason you are picking up a PS3 soon for? You can just play AC4 on the 360. I don't mean to turn this into a whole system debate, but why get it if you don't have to yet, you've held out this long; whats a few months more to see if things shape up for Sony and the PS3.

Resistance Fall of Man looks good and is a good First Person shooter, I don't think many would argue that fact. That being said though one nice game shouldn't justify the purchase of the system yet, even if you have 600$ to burn at whim. I mean you are asking opinions on if you should buy Resistance for a PS3 you'll be getting soon, so I'm just saying my opinion to you would be wait until there are more games out that justify the purchase of the system. By then maybe Resistance will even be a greatest hits title or something.

If you are dead set to get a PS3 for whatever your reason, then by all means get Resistance since sadly it is one of it not the only good game currently out for the PS3.

s2 was good for about 5-8 months then hit the shitter IMO. It can be argued that s1 was the best online console shooter ever made. I'll have to agree as I'm probably the best player on it right now :wink:

I will say this though single player co-op on RFOM was awesome.
