So I'm considering ordering a Dell vostro and wanted to know if anyone has any reasons not to order from dell business if they have a better deal than home?

mostly doing it also because they have geforce8600gt there and on home they only offer a radeon ati hd 2600xt.

setup is this:

Ordering from the business side is better actually, because you can have the machine ordered with XP. The home side peddles Vista. The only downside is less options on gaming type hardware like video cards and sound cards, you have to hope the card they put in there is decent, or buy one separately,

Nah, they don't check. I've ordered a Vostro 1500 and a Vostro 400 with a 24" monitor using the business name "Mootsfox Inc".

For $800 you can build your own computer. If you really want a Dell, search for coupon codes, there was a $500 off $1300 or more recently... so any $1300 computer would be $800.

The Vostros are fine. The 8600GT sucks. Go with the 8800GT.

Could you build this computer yourself? You'd save about $200 and get better specs.

The Vostro 1000, 1400, 1500 and 1700 are laptops. (14.1, 14.1, 15.4, 17")

The Vostro 200 and 400 are desktops.

that's a very, very nice system he picked out for you, but kind of pricey sans monitor. the vostro laptops have gotten generally awesome reviews, the only issue being that they are a little heavy. since you're looking at a desktop, obviously the point is moot and the hardware is very similar. for what you're looking for, i'd say the vostro is a good, decently priced system.




no hijack here, but i gotta thank mootsy rq - he just saved me $500 bucks on my computer, that coupon i found online allowed me to upgrade to dual core 2.0s, 256M nv 8800gt, 250G HDD, bluetooth, wireless-n card and a few other minor upgrades AND... i still spent less that i would have earlier this morning for a basically stock system.

placed my order and it should be here late this week, i knew there was a reason i loved BG!

oh, and the total price including tax was like $803. o.O

no code necessary, i clicked thevostro 1500 link on this page and it took me directly to dell's website where i started building. the discount over 1249 was already active in the price window, and i fully placed the order by credit card and it's been acknowledged/confirmed via email with ship date, so the coupon definitely worked as of 15 min ago.


edit: i had to "plant a tree" for 3 bucks to make it over the 1249 without ordering something stupid lol =D
