Man saws house in two in divorce

BERLIN - A 43-year-old German decided to settle his imminent divorce by chain sawing a family home in two and making off with his half in a forklift truck.

Police in the eastern town of Sonneberg said on Friday the trained mason measured the single-story summer house — which was some 8 meters (26 feet) long and 6 meters wide — before chain sawing through the wooden roof and walls.

"The man said he was just taking his due," said a police spokesman. "But I don't think his wife was too pleased."

After finishing the job, the man picked up his half with the forklift truck and drove to his brother's house, where he has since been staying.

50% of the world makes $5000 US a year or less.

That guy probably built that home by hand and/or with a few of his buddies.. which is kind of cool.

When I was in Montana on the continental divide we made a few structures like that from the ground up during the middle of winter.. it was a lot of fun.

Except that Germany is hardly a third world country. The average house there is nowhere near that small.

It was a summer home, like the article mentioned, which means that more than likely it was at a seasonal camp ground. It's pretty common for people there to have a small cabin or RV and take and park it somewhere and live there off and on during the months from spring to fall. That's what this was.
