    file permission on a CD

I made a cd a couple years ago, just recently found it. It has a lot of old text documents, movies, etc but for some reason its not letting me view any of it. For documents it says to check the file permission. How would I go about changing the CD security so I can view the files?

I'm not sure that you can change properties on a locked CD.
I would try to copy and paste the files and then change the properties, if that don't work then wait for a more savvy person to post an answer lol.

get a live disk of a Linux distro (Ubuntu works I've heard...)

I've had to use linux for restoring files from a customer's old borked laptop. It worked quite well actually.
