    FFXII Ending

I Just finished FFXII and the ending was pretty good. I did find it funny how I was able to beat the final boss with berserk + haste though... so lame. Also the "last boss" took less time (about 15 seconds) than the "second boss" (which took me about 30-45 seconds).

The ending was really kewl, it makes me look forward to the sequel even if it is for the DS.

The best part without a doubt, though, is Balthier. "I am the leading man afterall". Gosh, he is so FUCKIN WIN. Geez, what a great ending lol.

Thus, Balthier became my favorite RPG character of all time.

I actually had trouble with the 'final' boss myself. I had 100 hours of doing hunts without guides and falling asleep with a controller in my hands, and was about level 70 with the rest being 55ish. Halfway through the fight, I was struggling just to stay alive. It was like Nidhogg spamming wing. Spent all my efforts to not die and I couldn't do any damage.

    ::spoilerz?::

I found the ending to be rather sad, mostly concerning Ashe not really hanging out with anyone anymore, missing Basch's protection, Basch being a Judge before Larsa, Penelo getting tribal tattoos. But, I enjoyed it nonetheless. I was also bummed not to see more of the Balthier/Fran relationship that seemed to be blooming towards the end of the story.

Ok since this is a spoiler thread in it's title really:

Wasn't the ring with the card an invitation to a wedding or some shit? It seemed like whenver someone read it they got all happy. Like Ashe smiled and Penelo jumped on Vaans back. I think they either got married or had Mithramen babies.

Damn, I'm blind. There was a ring with the card Balthier left when he took the Strahl back?

I thought they were just psyched about going and visiting them. *shrug* I guess that's better then~

I was under the impression that he was returning the ring he took from Ashe in the letter, and they were simply excited to hear he was alive.

Ah HAH, I think that's what I must have seen and also must have assumed. Yeah, Balthier and Fran weren't heard from again since they went into Bahamut to stop it, thus Vaan was keeping his promise and taking care of the Strahl incase something happened to him (for how many years?). Then the Strahl was gone, and left behind was the note to come visit them in (some place I forgot?) and Ashe's wedding ring, thus proving Balthier and his babygirl Fran were actually alive and implying the future story for Revenant Wings.

Yeah, I just recently realized upon my second or third replay that Balthier 'borrows' Ashe's ring when they set out for Paramina Rift / Bur Omisace and he returns it at the end. Makes sense.

it's not Ashe's ring, it's Rasler's ring. Ashe still wears hers.

I understood it to be the ring that Rasler gives her when they got married (wedding band)...I mean, he must have had some girly fingers then if it was able to fit her that well.

The letter Balthier sends to Vaan and Penelo tells them he's going after the cache of Glabados, and that he'll be waiting in the city of Bervenia. Both of those names are from FFT. The Church of Glabados is the name of the religion of St. Ajora, and Bervenia Free City is, well, a city in Ivalice.

Sounds like Final Fantasy: Revenant Wings will have some nice tie-ins with Final Fantasy Tactics

So true. Vayne's 3rd form is a pure bitch. I breezed thru his first two forms and neatly breezed thru his 3rd til he put up some full invincible shield that lasted like 5 mins. meanwhile, his attacks were doinh 800-1000 damage, killing my players quickly. I was blowing al my MP trying to raise everyone, only to see them die 10s later. Second time I did it, I had 3 bubble belts and Arise. Made a world of difference. I was level 45-50 at the time.

As for the ending CS, I loved it. Balthier is pure win and is the true hero of the story, along w/ Ashe. Vaan did little, if anything heroic, while Balthier and Fran risked their lives to stop the Bahamut from crashing into the city. if the leading man dies, he usually goes out with a man, so I was worried that Balthier might actually die, the first time I actually care enough about a character to hope s/he doesn't die.

And it does suck that Ashe has grown about apart from Vaan and co, but such is the life of royalty. I think she does want to be with them, but she also knows that royalty shouldn't be seen with commoners.

One thing I see unanswered is what happened after Ashe said "Fuck you" to the god and destroyed the Sun-Cryst. No one blows off the gods w/o a response from them, so it be cool to see what'll happen.

If the Occuria had any bones to pick with Ashe, maybe the fact that the party put an end to Venat (who was a renegade Occuria, remember) satisfied them.

I didn't really get the whole Occuria thing. They've been pulling the strings of humanity and manipulating history forever. Why? And why did they want Ashe to give in to her desire for revenge, and to destroy the Archadian Empire with the Sun Cryst?

In the ending, Gabranth mentions that if house Solidor is brought down, that the entire empire would erupt in civil war. Maybe the Occuria want to cause that chaos?

Another thing I never really got were Cid and Vayne's motives; Cid in particular seemed to just be doing what he thought best for mankind, that is, "putting the reigns of history back into the hands of man." Vayne, I supppose, was just power-hungry, but it's not that clear.

Here is where I felt that the storyline of FF12 lacked completion. The biggest things that irked me was that the Occuria and Espers really were relegated to a minor part of the storyline. From the information in the bestiary, it would've been nice to have had more story elements to the optional Espers and Espers in general.

Second is that you never get to go to Rozarria. When I saw the map at the beginning of the game, I figured I'd end up going to both Rozarria and Archadia. Only having references to Rozarria and minor roles from Rozarrian characters felt like a letdown gameplay-wise.

Third is just... I dunno, Vayne doesn't exactly make for an impressive last boss. While the storyline isn't bad, it does feel like there is something missing compared to other FFs. I'm not saying the storyline should be the same as other FFs, but the general archetype for FFs is pretty solid and FF12 really diverges from the typical scope of FFs and it results in a very odd feeling.

It's crazy how people still find things to complain about when it comes to the best, hands down, RPG of the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube era.

Thinking specifically of those complaining about the storyline (wtf? 12 rivals 7).

they spent more time on the Turks in 7 than the Judges in 12.

"It's crazy how people" think good games can't have flaws.

People are just afraid of having a game be as close to perfect as one can possibly be

Agreed. I consider FFXII to be one of the best games I've ever played, but there was room for improvement and things they could have done better.
