    Prefiring a router question

I'm moving to a house soon that already has a router hooked up on the first floor. It is not wireless.

I'll be on the second floor. There is a CAT5 cable running up there for me to plug my PC in. I also have a laptop, that uses 102.11g/b to connect to a network.

Can I bring my old wireless router, plug it into the existing CAT5 cable, disable DHCP on my wireless router, and just use it as a hub/wireless hot spot for the network?

Yes. Just take a CAT5 cable from the plug in your new place, slap it into your wireless router and it will work fine. I've done it in the past and didn't have any problems.

You might need to get a crossover cable to connect between the two routers. I would consult the documentation on both of the routers.

Most modern network appliances have autosensing ports, so you probably don't need a crossover cable, but it doesn't hurt to be informed. =)
