    Petrifying Pair Duo

    I, a rdm/blm, and a friend, a mnk/war, attempted to duo this three times.

The first time, the only meds we brought were an icarus wing for him and a pro ether for me.

The plan was to use the icarus wing and boost 12 times while I protect II'ed us, cast blink and aquaveil and myself, then rested to full.

He was supposed to open with a fully boosted combo to the brown lizard while I bind/grav'ed the white one.

He screwed up and wasted the boosts on a normal hit, he pops hundred fists, and I keep him cured. He vokes the brown, I keep the white one busy.

We wiped without even killing the brown lizard.

    First attempt

Second time, I decided to bring a dagger and do some enspell damage. Didn't have time to melee and take care of the white one, so I gave up on trying to melee. My accuracy was crap anyways.

We brought along quite a few hi potions on this run along with my pro ether and his icarus wing.

Killed the brown lizard, minor damage to the white one before we wiped.

    Second attempt

For the third attempt, my friend had about 14 hi potions and an icarus wing. I had 2 hi potions, 5 hi ethers, and a pro ether.

I didn't attempt to melee this time. I casted enfeebles, thinking they might help, but they didn't make much of a difference.

We killed the brown lizard and got the white lizard about half way before we ran from the battlefield via the ???

My friend recorded the fight, but he's too lazy to edit it, so he hasn't uploaded it yet.

    -----

So, my question is, is there anything we can do differently to win? Is this fight duo'able by our jobs, or do we need utsusemi?

We want to duo this, so bringing along a third person, while being a viable solution, is unacceptable.

I liked the part where he spent 5 minutes trying to find "die" in auto translate.

    1) Get the usual staples to low level BCNMs (You've got the potions/ethers fine, you're really missing out on regen HP (Periskos would really help there) and Yagudo drinks (c'moooon no more problems with MP with this @.@

    B) As stated above, monk needs some damn food. Fishsticks or Meatsticks, either will do fine (His accuracy seemed really shitty in the first vid, maybe try rice dumplings)

III) HOLY CRAP he needs to learn how to engage/WS so he doesn't fuck up that multi-boost at the beginning.

    4) Ninjedit : You should stick to enfeebling, slow/blind would REALLY help his shit, and getting yourself some INT gear for Bind/grav would lower your resist rates a ton, I didn't really notice any INT gear in taht first video.

Yeah, he's a RL friend, and he's pretty new. Mnk is his first job, and I've PL'ed his way to 30 and single-handedly gotten him to rank 5.

Would food really make that much of a difference? I play mages mostly, so food doesn't matter so much to me, therefore I wouldn't know.

I didn't think he turned for the petrification, but he swore he did, and the video is proof. Perhaps he didn't turn fast enough?

Food, hp and mp regen, once again I have to ask if it would make that much of a difference?

The evasion, the lizards use secretion at the beginning of every BCNM, so their evasion is going to be high. I'd like to stick the brown one with a grav, but I really need to use it on the white one every time the recast is up.

Yeah, he fucked up the WS, but I didn't think it would make much of a difference. Although, I've been saying that a lot, "Would this really help? That doesn't seem like it would do that much." I guess it's all the small things added together, huh? I'll try to get him to practice that.

As for the int, I could easily macro that in, and I probably will if we try again, but I can't recall getting any resists. And yeah, I'll enfeeble next time, every little bit counts.

So, enfeebles and food, don't fuck up the ws, you guys think that'll be enough?

Does that actually work? I've tried it a dozen times but end up petrified and getting pwned anyway.

It seems like there are gaze attacks like Hex Eye and whatever that Taurus doom one is called that need eye-to-eye contact and glare attacks that just require the mob to be looking at you to take effect. Petrifying gaze and torpid glare from dynamis statues seem to be examples of the latter. Of course with how craptastic my connection is I might be wrong.

Food mostly doesn't matter on mage jobs. But it'll cut what you get hit for though by a third with def food or increase your damage by 50% though as a melee with meat/rice dumplings. Sushi makes a huge difference in Acc when you're having problems, but anyone eating it at level 30 needs a Backhand Blow.

I've seen many tanks try to turn away from petrifying gaze but I've never seen one succeed :\

You can do it, but you need to start turning when you first see the charge animation. If you assume every TP attack is a gaze, and your reaction time isn't lame, you will be okay. You can do the same thing with the cockatrice gaze, too.

Eat Dumplings. They're cheap and very effective.

get him to level blu to 20 (takes maybe 1 day if you are determined) and take yagudo drinks.. spam headbutt and bludgeon while facing away from the mob, while you kite the other with bind/blink. BLU might be ridiculously powerful at 75, but its nothing on how powerful it is in low level caps.

This is problem #1 right there.

Also, I've done this with a trio before as the kiter, so you can definitely keep one lizard running around between Gravity and Bind, no problem. Needless to say, Yagudo Drinks please.

If he can stay alive and not end up stoned, it's doable as a duo, though you definitely want him getting regen drinks and something to keep him from being a whiffing machine in the food department. Seeing as he's on his first and PL'ed job, odds are he's going to fail plenty at turning in time to negate a Gaze. When it happens, /wave 30 B. Seals. Cockatrice Stew might help some with the duration on Gazes, but then he's still going to have trouble hitting the thing.

Save the seals and do it once he knows his job and isn't doing it via your hand-holding.
