Ranged attack?

A few days ago, I got a plate with Main Job: Ranger. Since we can't use fomor or beastmen, I was wondering, "Then what the heck do we have that uses ranged attacks? Is there any point to making this job available at all?" Finally I remembered the spitting fish in the BCNM20 "Shooting Fish", Sniper and Archer Pugil and decided to capture a pugil and try giving RNG to see what happened. Well, I captured a Sicklemoon Jagil on Mt. Zhayolm (starting level 8, COR job, innate STR +25 and Resist Paralysis Lv. 8 traits, 59 FP) and gave it Main Job: Ranger and Agility Bonus and threw it in the pit, and kept giving it orders to back off (unsuccessfully), but I never saw it make a single ranged attack. Has anyone else had any better luck getting their mob to do a ranged attack?

you might need ranger traits to make it do something like that?

Maybe you have to capture one of the Sniper or Archer pugils to have that ability.

Well, I have a Ranger Traits plate handy, so I'll try that. I'd like to try a RNG mob with added effect: bind or gravity on it's attacks, so it can trap the enemy in place, back off, and shoot at them without getting hit. But I'm not going to invest the time to get the supporting plates until I can prove that pit mobs can make ranged attacks at all. BTW, for those curious about what jobs pugils can have, I tried setting support job as THF to no avail.

Sooooooo... Even with ranger job traits, my pugil didn't make a single ranged attack. This might be a function of his "extremely low" discipline causing him to repeatedly ignore my orders to back off. Of course, "back off" might not actually be the right command, but it intuitively seems right. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Just as Main Job: DRG can't summon a wyvern or use jumps, but still benefits from Accuracy and Attack traits.

Orc DRGs can use Jump, though. I assume that lack of it for pit mobs is the consequence of a lack of the animation for it for the mob types that can set DRG (which ones are those, anyway?). For pugils shooting, we know the animation exists because the BCNM20 fish do it. The ahriman Airy Shield (adds Arrow Shield status) would also be a pretty pointless thing to include if there were no ranged attacks of any kind in the pit.
