    15,000RPM Hard Drive Cables?

Alright guys n gals, I need a quick tip as to where I can get some Ultra320 80pin or an 80 to 68pin Converter & 68pin cable.
btw I was one of the lucky few to order up the limited Alienware P2 Chassis (Black) even though it was nearly 500$ with shipping to Canada (WELL WORTH IT)

A couple of weeks back I bought myself a new computer (DIY) and the Operating System Hard Drive as you can see is OEM so it doesn't come with any fucking cables and my motherboard doesn't include any since 15,000RPM drives are rather new, The Cheap 74GB version was 359.99$ lol they have 300GB models already. So to get down and dirty, Does anyone know where the Fuck I can get some cables for this beast? I just pre-ordered Crysis, COD4 and Wings of The Goddess.

Dare I ask how much that system cost you?

And second, is the Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe going to be compatible with AMD's new chipset (I believe the chips codename is Barcelona) that is, from their standpoint, hopefully to be released before this upcoming Christmas?

What's that pull-out table on your desk for if you have the keyboard and mouse on the top of the desk?

very impressive (i'm sure the total price would render me comatose).

with a setup this beefy you might want to consider 2 optical drives, i find it convenient for a lot of things (burn a disc in one drive to the other, burn while watching a dvd, burn people copies of your music while ripping theirs lol). This has been my experience at least and it certainly looks like you are sparing no expense.

as for the scsi cable, you didn't mention your scsi controller. I searched for this myself because i was curious and found out SCA 80 U320 cables aren't common. Depending on the interface of your controller, you might want to go with these:

http://www.cablesondemand.com/category/ ... 0_SCSI.htm (note, i have never bought from these guys and haven't even looked up reseller ratings or anything, but WPCGJA7 = 10% off)

looks like most retail drives come with 80-pin to 68 pin converters so that most cables work, but if you are like me, that solution probably won't satisfy you, try looking here

    http://computers.listings.ebay.com/Cabl ... ngItemList

i know, lolebay but at least you can find what item you will need and continue your search from there.

    Re: 15,000RPM Hard Drive Cables?

The tray is to small for my g15 and g7,
case was about 500$, only down side is only 3 drive bays
I do have 2 optical drives, my plextor is the good one though
I can move my tv very easily it is on one of those universal rotational tv mounts
im painting my room in 3 days :D Goin for a white look, the paint is called "Snow Bank"

All in all the whole thing cost me about 5500$ since I had to return the first set of z5500's i got from tigerdirect.

Like the previous poster mentioned. You did not state what your SCSI controller was. That particular HDD requires a SCSI controller to function properly. It is also a hotswappable HDD and is designed to be placed onto a SCSI backplane.

Your best bet (if you have a SCSI controller), is to purchase a 68pin LVD cable and a single hotswap scsi drive enclosure to place in a 5.25" drive bay.

    Re: 15,000RPM Hard Drive Cables?

get rid of the 15,000 rpm scsi drives and get some 15k rpm sas drives and controller imo (since money doesn't seem to be tight)

or just forget about 15k rpm drives altogether and get some nice quiet 7200rpm sata drives and raid 0+1 them to keep performance on par while keeping your computer from annoying the heck out of you while you are trying to game in peace.

10/15k rpm drives are too loud for a gaming rig that isn't in another room imo you can dampen and insulate all you want and they'll still be whiney and loud and will get worse most of the time as they get older.

    Re: 15,000RPM Hard Drive Cables?

I'm sorry, did you really spend $5500 and not only not get a cable but fail to notice that your system can't handle that $360 SCSI drive? That motherboard is only SATA and PAPA, no SCSI.

Send the SCSI drive back and get a .WD Raptor Near SCSI speed (you will never notice a difference with only one drive), no need for a dedicated controller card for one HDD, and double the storage space. Most importantly no constant whining. SCSI drives spin continuously, it's part of the reason why they're so damn fast when it comes to I/O. You don't want that sitting next to you for extended gaming sessions though, 15K SCSI drives are rather annoying. Sexy as hell for servers or a workstation with heavy I/O needs, wasted money and unnecessary noise in a gaming desktop. IMO.

If your geek lust requires a 15K SCSI drive you're going to need a 80 pin SCA to 68 pin SCSI adapter. That 80 pin interface is designed so the drives can sit in a sled and plug in to a backplane. It provides the data paths, power, and HDD activity signals all in one convenient connection. Straight cabling from a controller will require an adapter. If you want to go that way I'll post some parts.

Edit: Yep, I type too slow. Beaten to the 'no scsi controller' and 'they're loud'.

    Re: 15,000RPM Hard Drive Cables?

I'll give him that, cause i'm not even referring to that.

As far as the PC is concerned though, you spent 400+ on a cpu that wont' run better than a 180-200 dollar core 2 duo, over 1k on 2 GPU's on SLI that won't improve your visuals any better than just running one of those cards, ended up buying an overpriced ultra x-pro PSU to cover the extra wattage from the 2nd GPU, 500 dollars for a case.... and then buy 800mhz ram? and not even spring the extra money for a ddr3 MOBO and ddr3 ram?

I guess i really have no right to criticize how someone else spends their money, it just doesn't make any sense. You overspent for stuff that won't help your machine and underspent on stuff I would think you'd want to spend more on.

That said, the monitor does kick ass.
