    DVSParse

How do you get this thing to actually get the data? It loads fine (installed .NET), it starts parsing, but it doesn't pick up any data.

I use Windower. Are they not compatible with each other? I couldn't find anything on the DVSParse forums about this.

Thanks very much for any help anyone might be able to offer.

    Notes:

    Meet all requirements.
    Use Windower.
Chat filters - all off (text is showing up for everything I want parsed)
    Windows XP

Did you click File -> New Parse?

Yes. It says on the bottom something about Parse running. It also grays out starting new parse and has options to Pause or Stop parsing.

During this time FFXI is running (again via windower) but when I'm engaged in combat nothing appears on the parse screen. I toggle between Detailed/summary, still nothing appears. I also checked the config of the parse and enabled all the check boxes (to make sure it was picking up everything).

Does the parse program have to be installed in a certain place?

Did you click the Raw Chat thing and see if anything was showing up there? Also did you have multiple instances of FFXI running?

    Re: DVSParse

The raw chat export had no data. Only one instance of FFXI was running, though I typically have Ventrilo and/or Teamspeak running as well as websites (firefox, though Internet Explorer is installed, though I'm not sure if it's fully updated? I download/install all windows advisories though, and I think it's contained there). I do not have file sharing applications while playing FF running in the background.

The game is installed on the D:\ drive, rather than the C:\ drive, due to a dual-OS boot process (I have Vista/XP installed on the same machine). Could this be a problem? FFXI and DVSparse are installed on the same drive of course. Currently I copy/pasted the directory into FF's directory, but originally tried it from desktop.

Doesn't matter where on the computer it is installed or that Vista is installed on the asme system, although if you're actually running DvsParse on vista I've heard of problems before.

You also need to be running as Administrator, are you logged into the machine on an account that has limited access? Usually it spits a debug.log file into the same directory that DvsParse.exe is in, paste the results here.

1.7.1 is old, 1.7.2 is current and necessary to work with updated FFXI. I'd imagine there'll be 1.7.3 out after today's update, given that it's virtually guaranteed to break again.

someone else asked about running it on vista the other day; I told them to run it in XP compatibility mode and it apparently solved whatever problem they were having. (I'm not moving to vista until after SP1 myself haha)

    Re: DVSParse

perhaps better phrased as: "until at least after SP1"

just for the record since this thread subject is a lightning rod: DVS parse is currently broken (patch 8/27/2007) so if it's not working for you, that's why.

start checking for version 1.7.3 at the sourceforge site (link should above, I'm feeling lazy) in a couple days; that should fix the issue with this patch.

when it will get done is anyone's guess of course.

it's usually really simple to fix updates, i might be able to fix it sooner rather than later.

    Re: DVSParse

yeah I figured they just changed the relative location of the chat structure (again) and nothing more complex than that; but since I wasn't going to be updating it (and hadn't even checked the ffxi memspace to see how drastic the change was) I wasn't about to promise anything. :-"

Will it work with the new Timestamps Windower 3.3 is adding? (please say yes)
