Anyone speak German? I have a few questions that need answering regarding word order.

Not to run off-topic, but how is it being a foreign language major?

language majors are for professional translaters; the people who translate books, work in foreign government offices, military and intellagance agencies, do subtitles for movies, facilitate interviews, etc.

I know that much, but I mean like, is it an enjoyable major? What kind of classes are required other than the foreign language classes?

It's freaking great. I am soooo much happier now that I got out of my 'real world' business type major and swapped over. I do really enjoy studying languages though.

As for the major requirements, at my school it's language classes, and then when you get better things like Germany history taught in German.

As for what to do with it, well yeah, you can translate of course, work for foreign relations with various places.

Me? I plan to learn a few more languages (including sign language which I'm doing now and is freaking easy as hell) and get a job at the Red Cross. They pay surprisingly well for their pay positions, especially if you don't mind going to the random ass places in the world to help people, and you speak a few languages.

Cool, cool! I asked because I'm a foreign language major myself. Right now it's generic foreign language, but I'm at a two year college. I'll end up with an associates and then I'll probably go to a uni and start over with a specific language I guess...I don't really have any kind of plan. I just enjoy languages a lot.

If you enjoy languages a lot definitely look into some general linguistics classes. They are some of my favorite so far, and I think I may have ended up taking enough of them for fun that I am eligible for a minor in it
