My buddy just started working at Harvard on a research project and he was complaining about his connection speeds....

Uhhhh... what the fuck, lol.
He was being very very sarcastic but that speed alone is just wow....
That speed needs to be commonplace in the States like it is in most other first world countries.
Which countries have those download speeds as common ?Originally Posted by Keno

This is like 1.5x as fast as it normally is.![]()

So I lied. Not most first world countries, but a few. And keep in mind these are average speeds, so in a lot of Asian countries the average will be skewed downward because of the high amount of low bandwidth users (due to lower costs).

Mostly asian and nordic countries.
I'm not certain, but I think this speed consider the bandwitdth used by the transfert protocole (unlike normal transfert that only consider the files itself)Originally Posted by Kiarax

Arn't a bunch of the universities now on Internet2 for alot of their research divisions?
Most of Japan is ran on fiber if I recall, America said fuck you to widespread optical and kept with DSL. Probably in 10 years we'll see an optical movement.Originally Posted by Ishido

First thought it was kilobyte per second but it's kilobit so not as impressive. D:
Here in the bigger cities you can get 100 megabit per second fairly easy. One of the bigger broadband companies just started to offer 1000 megabit per second but so far only 2 properties has access to it. They're saying by 2010 most their fiber costumers should be able to get it though.
