ps3 meant to be loud?

got a ps3 a few weeks ago, and its louder than my goddam washing machine i swear, and as none of my friends etc. have one (all have 360's >.<) I was wondering, they meant to be so loud? or should i go have it checked...?

PS3 is as quiet as a a church mouse, I sometimes have trouble noticing if mine is on, something is wrong with yours...

I wouldn't go so far as to say something is wrong with your PS3 if it's loud. Mine can get rather loud, but usually if it's been on awhile and then again it's only the fans.

If yours is making some noises other than fans that are loud, then you might need to be concerned.

Ive left mine on several days at a time and its still only made as much noise as my pc fan on idle (Not that much), So if yours is really loud, then yea probably somethin wrong. Do you leave it in an enclosed case? Such as inside a door on an entertainment stand? It does need some breathing room and can get hot (leading to loud fan) if kept in a small enclosed space.

The PS3 kiosk at my local WalMart sounds like a hairdryer, but then again, it's stuck inside a plastic casing without much ventilation....

On a scale of 1 (Wii) to 10 (Xbox360) I would say my PS3 is a 4. I don't even notice when it's on. When my Xbox360 is on it bothers me often as I hear it in the background.

I'd assume your PS3 is in a well ventilated area, eh? Mine doesn't make any loud sounds, it just heats up my place but no noises lol.

I cant even hear that my PS3 is on unless the fans kick on, then I can slighty hear it (its not to loud with the fans on either, like the above poster said, it sounds like a pc fan). Now heat on the other hand, PS3 is like a space heater in a small room ; ;

Yeah, its sitting on the coffee table in front of TV. So its well ventilated, and on a flat surface....guess i'll have to have it looked at lol. Thank you all.
