    The state of things

About a year ago I totaly quit FFXI for WoW, but I really got tired of how things work there, so I just picked up the Vana'diel Collection.
So I have some questions for yallz:
    Does DRG still suck?
Does PVP still suck(In balance and attendance)
Did endgame really get any better?
Is RMT still a huge problem?
Does this topic belong in the nub forum?
    PS: -awsome

Actually, no one has asked in a while, so I can honestly say that no, gilsellers really aren't a problem anymore. Surprisingly.

And yes, this should be in the noob forum.

    Re: The state of things

DRG can hold thier own now in a PT, due to the "two-handed" updates.

PVP still sucks overall, and BLU being added to the job lineup makes it onesided in certain situations, leaving the balance still fucked. Attendance overall is still the same.

Endgame has more mobs to face off against now, but to each server it's own problems still. There are more options for on par gear than sitting around in an area for 3 hrs for claim, but sitting around for those 3ish hrs will still lead towards some of the best equipment regardless.

RMT still a problem-- they've gone from mass gilfarming to gilfarming and acct hijacking. SE has gotten rid of a crapload of RMT gils and turned the mass inflation into a deflation crater.

Ehhh on Adv vs Noob topic, up to the mods and admin.

Compared to what you're used to by now, yes.

Yes? Depends on where you stood before in terms of "good" and "fun".

It'll probably end up there either way.

Well, I meant PVP terms of DRG, SAM, PLD, amd BRD being useless and MNK/RNG/THF/BLM/NIN owning the crap out of anyone that wasn't them. And also the fact that some of the time Ballista attendance was almost 0 and exploding at other times.

Also, Haley is the hottest ginger I've ever seen, but her music sucks.

I thought PLD pretty much kicks everyones ass in Ballista. (I've never done ballista)

PLD/RDM is amazing in ballista, and BRD/RDM is pretty good properly geared. Obviously, both are going to get destroyed if you don't know what you're doing.

Quick edit: since it wasn't explained: PLD/RDM with capped Enhancing can take any direct hit and convert said damage to 0. Stoneskin/Phalanx/Pro/Bar/Shell/Sent = hot. BRD/RDM can't do anything offensively (unless you count Elegy) but you can annoy the shit out of a group or individual. Two forms of dispel, 3 forms of sleep, Gravity, Elegy, Silence, yada. Not hard to pull off when Wind Threnody gives the enemy the resistance of a Tiny Mandragora.

    Re: The state of things

I only play 60 cap, I think other caps are a waste of time, especially if you seek any type of balance, so....

I meant PVP terms of DRG, SAM, PLD, amd BRD being useless
DRG, SAM, and PLD have always been very decent, PLD and SAM especially(DRG kind of suffers from Wyvern timer). BRD can be quite good when you are a) playing people you know (that are good); b) playing with random people that are good. You'll find that you can still get along fine with sleeps and buffing alone, good party or not.

BLM requires WHM sub and like SMN really lack any type of potent self-defense. They can be extremely good in bigger groups. Many people will underestimate them and ignore them, but won't be able to by the second or third AoE as half of their entire alliance is down to 50% because of you. Solo(or uh, duo), it's hit or miss, you'll either be unable to bind/sleep someone or you will and kill them easily. Their biggest weakness is being double(or tripled) teamed with no back-up and running out of MP constantly(making death pretty okay since you get a fresh bar of MP). Drain, Aspir, Bind, Sleep, Bio, two highest nukes, and all -aga(save Poisonga if you are using sleep) are useful. You are there to enfeeble, do AoE damage, strip shadows, and maybe occasionally heal. One last thing: BLMs work best in pairs and triplets because it's quicker AoE damage and more targets.

BLU are retard broken in most other caps. In 60 the SAM/RNG with sorobo are pretty much the closest thing to broken, but they are really easy to take down.

    1) Dragoon is better but nothing people jump to invite.
    2) As much as it did a year ago
    3) I guess if Salvage wasn't around when you quit then yes end game options got alot better.
    4) RMT moved from farming to pure craft spam and account stealing
    5) Probably

    Re: The state of things

RMT is still a problem in that they've now started hacking accounts left and right, because farming gil or camping NMs in game isn't worth it, because every time they get close to a useful level, they get hit with the banstick.

They're no longer a problem in that you have to compete with a gazillion of them at every NM camp that drops anything even remotely mentionable.

Also, DRGs got pimped a bit with the 2-hander update, and for meritparties it helps that most of the things you merit on are flying shit. Imps, flies and colibri are popular merit mobs. They're still no powerhouses, though (except for that tiny period of time where all the 2-handers were gods, and the DRGs in my shell were doing 2,700 dmg Penta Thrusts in the Mire...).

    1) No longer LOL, Dragoon. It's moved up to being on par with most DD's and since many 70+ PT's hunt piercing weak targets, it's effective in merits too.

    2) Not much change, since FFXI's not really a PvP game. See other posts before this.

    3) Yes. More options spread out endgamers quite a bit, and stuff like Salvage can produce excellent gear. You still can get some gawdlike shinies if you like staring at darters, but there's other ways to go now.

    4) RMT fucktards decided to mine a few websites with a keylogger that used a RealPlayer exploit to get in, notably Somepage and Guildportal. About 2500 accounts got snagged, S-E's in the process of fixing them.

    5) You are here.
