More RMT Attempts? Or just spammers?

Everyone gets those "You've inherited millions of dollars" e-mails once in a while, but something about the most recent one I got caught my eye. All the people it was sent to are people that are from FFXI, maybe even people that post on BG.

I noticed a couple people who's e-mail I know from here. Can anyone confirm their e-mail addy here as well? I'm going to do the registry scan rq after this.

That's one of those Nigerian type scams where they need someone to hold cash for you. They did a big story on Dateline about this. This scam has been around forever.

I'm surprised you think this is RMT.

I know about those Nigerian scams. I was just worried that because all the recepients are ffxi players, that it may be RMT just trying to look like one of those Nigerian scammers.

One e-mail to people who play FFXI doesn't equal RMTs. Could be a bot/crawler collecting mail addresses off a forum, a website, your address book...

Also, this scam has been around forever in various incarnations. I seem to recall receiving an e-mail about this when I was still in middle school/early high school.

I'd have to agree with lexa. More than likely, a bot just collected the addresses off someone's address book, and sent the e-mails on to them. If it's a lot of BG-registered people, could a bot have got in here? I doubt it, since I just checked, and I don't have any nigerian scam e-mails in my inbox.

Also, the way RMT and Nigerian scammers go about things is much different. Nigerian scammers just want your money and bank account information. RMT people want your gil.
