I bet there's save points every 5 minutes.
I'll buy it anyways, cause I liked the original Bionic Commando (sucked at is as a kid, though).
Aren't they also making an entirely new Bionic Commando that's not an NES remake with improved graphics?
Man I used to love Bionic Commando back in the day. I used to love that and Rush'n Attack.
Both of those games I have rented multiple times. They were just so good. I don't remember much of Rush'n Attack, though.Originally Posted by Mizango

Man that game was my favorite game as a kid. You go and save the hero "Joe". And when you do get to him, he's like, no kid we've got a world to save, we need to go after Master Blaster now (I think that was the villains lol name?). Epic.
So you go and take out his supercomputer, and it comes down to the one swing shot. Get it in the window of the ship, or die trying. Even More Epic.
And the base blows up, but look, whats that?! On the bottom of the helicopter you and Joe (you saved his ass again) Beyond Epic.
edit: actually read the article and it's Master D. Master BLaster was from some other NES game I think, but I don't remember off hand which.
Fun facts:
The original Japanese version of Bionic Commando placed the character in a battle against futuristic Nazis. The final boss was Adolf Hitler, who had been resurrected by evil scientists. All references to Nazism were removed from the American release: the swastikas were replaced by albatross figures, the enemies were renamed from "Nazis" to "Badds" (though the backstory in the instruction manual referred to them as Nazz) and the overall difficulty of the game was reduced. The final boss's name was changed to "Master-D", but he still clearly resembles Adolf Hitler. There is a notably gory ending sequence in which he is shot in the face, which was kept intact in the American version; an unusual move, considering Nintendo of America's heavy censorship issues at the time. All these changes remained for the European version, but the game manual still mentions Nazis. The story featured in the English version of the game begins with a search for Super Joe, who was the main character of the arcade version and Commando.
This was, by far, my favorite game of the NES. I even went out one Halloween as a Bionic Commando, complete with a bionic arm I built out of a Karate arm guard and Constructs. I'm going to see my family on Sunday, I'll see if I can dig up the photo.
With this remake and the new 3-d Bionic Commando game coming out I hereby dub 2008 the year of the Bionic Commando.
I was going to say, they were after that dude and his frog? What did they ever do wrong?!Originally Posted by sb
Speaking of Blaster Master, I wish they'd do a remake of that game. It was hard, but awesome.
Just the right level of "hard", too, not comically difficult like Ghosts'n'Goblins games.
"Super Joe? I don't know any Super"
"Joe."
Worst line break ever, but incredibly memorable.
I once bought Mappyland on NES over Contra out of sheer pity. It was right after we got out of school for the summer (June) and my Dad said we could get one game, and that would be it until Christmas.
Me and my brother got into a fist fight as soon as we got home and he saw the opening credits.
