    Re: NHL Trade Deadline Deals

I like the trades Pittsburgh made. Although I think they really overpaid for Hal Gill. Now if they can re-sign Marian Hossa they will essentially be cementing themselves as an offensive juggernaut for years to come.

Washington really ponied up today to try and make it deep into the playoffs. The question is whether or not Federov still has some gas left in the tank. Huet for a draft pick is absurd on Montreal's end.

Dallas grabbing Brad Richards was a bit of a surprise considering the 7+ million price tag he carries along with him.

I'm still fairly shocked to see Olli Jokinen still in Florida and of course, Sundin in Toronto. All in all I would have to say that the Penguins, Capitals, and Stars were the big winners this year.

I dont care much about hockey, but wtf@Montreal's deal. He was doing fine here, and they got nothing in exchange.

Sabres fan here. Sad to see Soupy go, but he wanted more money that I feel he was worth. Overall I think it was a decent trade for both sides involved, especially if San Jose can come to terms with Campbell.

I know Sabres fans on the boards were praying we'd somehow acquire Jokinen from Florida, but I'm sure his asking price was too high.

I'm kinda happy with this being a Devils fan. We never used him for the most part and their defense has been hit and miss imo so woo. When do the players become active? I haven't followed this at all just heard the announcers talking about it going down. There's a game tonight :D

He's been in Buffalo for a while and has a pretty good fan base. Kinda surprised to see that.

He was offered 5.75M a year for 3 years and turned it down because he was unhappy with the length of the contract. He was hoping for 5+ years.

The Sabres are too much of a small market team to overpay for a slightly above average player. We lose all of our best players because other teams are more than willing to overpay. It's the price of success.

I like Campbell but I also agree that he isn't that spectacular. He's a damn good defenseman but he still has alot of room to improve. Montreal got raped on that trade though. Absolutely pathetic. Being a Pittsburgh resident my biggest concern now is that they won't be able to re-sign Hossa, thus making him the dreaded rental player.

Should still fun as hell to watch him out there with Malkin until Crosby comes back.

Campbell has a problem controlling the puck in his own end. I can't tell you how many times he has coughed up the puck and it has cost the Sabres. The reason why he looks so appealing as a D-Man is because of his offensive prowess. He has a great ability to move the puck through the zone with his head up and set up plays, plus he's got a decent slapshot from the point. This makes me a valuable two-way player, but as a shutdown defenseman he's average at best.

    Re: NHL Trade Deadline Deals

Yeah Campbell is a good offensive defenseman but he is a defensive liability in every way. I just saw that Marian Hossa's little brother Marcel got traded to Phoenix along with Al Montoya from the Rangers. That's a nice trade for Phoenix considering they have just shored up their goaltending situation for the foreseeable future. Well as long as Montoya develops and doesn't suck.

    Re: NHL Trade Deadline Deals

Actually the guy that the Blackhawks picked up could end up being a pretty damn good power forward. The problem is that Blackhawks fans remember Ruutu when he had one great season. What has he done since then? Jack shit. He is not durable and has been injured multiple times. Look at his stats this year, they are complete garbage.

    60 Games Played
    6 Goals
    15 Assists

In his career he's never once made it to 45 points in a season. Aside from his rookie year, he hasn't played a full season in 3 years. With Ladd you guys are getting a younger player who has the size and hands to become a good power forward. He reminds me a lot of Ryan Malone here in Pittsburgh.

Sorry, can you tell I follow hockey a lot?

    Re: NHL Trade Deadline Deals

Rangers moves were puzzling, depth moves at best. probably best for us though, this team is finally showing some chemistry and with good players coming up in the system, no reason to sell the farm for a rental. I would have liked to see them make a move for Campbell, but he's not what we needed in a D-man, especially for the cost and we have Sangiunetti 1-2 years away. Campbell and Drury are buddies, and Drury took Campbell to dinner when the rangers were in buffalo a few days ago, I'm sure he'll tell him how great it is to play hockey in NYC 8)

I'd say the surprise of the day was Hossa to the pens. everyone was saying Hossa was gonna go to montreal or ottawa, when I heard he got shipped to pitt I almost shit a brick. I dont see how they'll be able to afford crosby,malkin,hossa,staal,fleury....and still be able to dress a full NHL squad after this season, but for this run they have as much firepower as anyone in the league. I dont see them coming out of the east but if they can snag a top-4 seeding they could do well.

Chris Drury is fucking awesome. I can't believe the Sabres let him get away. I'm sure you know the video I'm referring to, but go on youtube and watch the video of him from last year's playoff series against the Rangers when he put home the tying goal with 7 seconds left. That video gives me the chills every time.

I was watching TSN while not working yesterday and I actually felt bad for Campbell, he seemed pretty sad to be moving.

Salei wasn't a bad pick up either, he is a big man and what we need with clark out.

I am just hoping FOOPA can bring us back. There were two other trades I was really hoping for, Blake to us, and Quenville to anyone.....
