Framerate and Corrupted graphics intel mobile 965express

Ok, so I play on my lap top. It is a Gateway M150x. Here are some of my specs
    Vista Home Premium 32-bit
Intel Dual Core around 1.4ghz each
Intel Mobile 965 Express Chipset Family (integrated graphics/video card)
    2 gigs of ram
(I also have latest version of DirectX)

    I have 2 problems:
    1. From the time I first booted up ffxi, I have a terrible frame rate in populated areas. In my mog house, my fps is 23-29.4. As soon as I have to render 2-3 other objects in the environment, fps dives down between 5-15 depending on how populated the area is. My first instinct is that I had my resolution and other graphical features too high. However, the game seems to run about the same regardless of my graphical settings: fps is about the same playing 1200x800/1024x1024background versus 800x600/800x600background. My next thought is to update my drivers. Sure enough, there is a newer driver available.
    2. Downloading said driver causes my character models to be messed up (see screen shot below) and the frame rate issue is exactly the same. I have tinkered with other things over the past few months, but to no avail. Please help
    Thanks!

It's an integrated chipset... see if the issue occurs in another game. Try to reinstall chipset THEN video drivers, then install directX

Re: Framerate and Corrupted graphics intel mobile 965express

I don't have any other even close to new games on my lap top . I play most psx games just fine on my epsxe emulator except FFVIII/IX if I turn up the graphics to optimized with the best plug-in (it only messed up during battles, mostly summons and other ornate things). Also, I'm not sure how to uninstall and reinstall my chipset? Do I just do that through my device manager? And how would I reinstall it?

EDIT: Sorry, forgot to mention this: I fixed the graphics by system restore to previous driver and turning off automatic windows updater (they're trying to make me upgrade to newest driver for my chipset). However, I still have yet to figure out how to fix my fps. Any help is appreciated ^^ although I'm beginning to think my chipset/drivers for my chipset just don't fully support FFXI (which doesn't make much sense because I believe the previous few intel integrated express models do support it [950 is listed as compatible I think?]).
