    Dynamis Valkurm/Qufim Question

    Hello,

I am one of the officers of a dynamis linkshell on sylph. We did our first dynamis-valkurm last week and, of course, wiped when the mega-boss did "Extremely Bad Breath." What I was wondering is if these two zones are like Dynamis-Buburimu where you need to kill hte megaboss prior to having an chance of AF2 Accessories or -1 pieces dropping.

Our linkshell recieved a normal quality AF2 piece off of one of hte beastmen on our way to the Gobbue NM, but I was not sure if the sabotender, manticore etc that are already up prior to the megaboss drop their accessories prior to the boss being killed. We have beaten Dynamis-Qufim, but when we killed the Nightmare mobs at the beginning of the run (at the pond), we never recieved AF2 Acc or -1 off of them, so I have no evidence to support that they do drop. If anyone can confirm whether they have ever seen them drop in these two zones (preferably Valkurm), I would appreciate it.

    Thanks,

    Xavierus of Sylph

    Re: Dynamis Valkurm/Qufim Question

Yes, you can. AF-1 and accessories can drop from the designated groups of mobs before you kill the boss, we had a couple of drops when we didn't try for the boss due to lack of time (and failed mini-boss attempts) back when we first started out and got a few items. Only place this doesn't work is Bubu, cos the mobs don't pop til the boss is done. Though *theoretically* you can get some from the gobs/orcs/etc. we never kill those.

Our very first Cleric's Belt ever in our shell we got off the Bats at the beginning in Qufim, while scouters looked for the subjob ???.

I was always under the impression that boss kills were more for time extentions than anything, except of course where there *aren't* any mobs in Bubu otherwise.

Like the other zones, you can weaken Christelle; we go for Fairy Ring and Nan'tina. We also kind of do a DL strat on her, lock her up with Chainspell Stun, BRDs spamming Horde Lullaby (and Repose is a godsend for this now, since Sleep doesn't stick on the baby Malboros; after they're lullabied, have a WHM Repose each of them so you don't have to worry about re-lullabying).

    Re: Dynamis Valkurm/Qufim Question

Yeah our problem was that we were short on time and a BLM casted a Tier 4 nuke to open before the PLD even engaged. Was a communication issue. Also, had a member to close to the hippogryph (or whatever spawns in the trees to the east) camp and agrooed them. We were able to get it down to about 40%, but the fact it killed one of our CS + Stunners because of the major hate issues hurt us.

Thanks for the advice about repose, that will make the pets more manageable. also, thanks for clearifying on whether items drop or not prior to megaboss.

one thing i read about that may help with the babies if they're a problem for you. a while back, someone noted that when someone accidentally dragged a mob to CC's spawn (before they engaged) she linked to the mob but strangely did NOT pop her kids. this lead me to theorize that it might be possible to hold something at low HP with a nin or other blink tank (ensuring it doesn't get TP and do something mean right before boss fight.) and when you're ready to engage, run it in and have a blm thundaga it out after it links CC. this would engage her w/o popping babies allowing your brds to focus on curaga2 spam as well as reducing the risk of losing to the babies after a close fight w/ CC. while it's unlikely this will make or break your run, it might make it smoother. i haven't tried it w/ my LS, so i make no warranty that this will work, so it's totally at your own risk to try, but the idea seems solid to me.

    Re: Dynamis Valkurm/Qufim Question

As other posters have mentioned, you can get AF2-1 and AF2 accessories prior to the MB kill, the MB is just the flag and time extension. We've gotten drops in Qufim before the MB, and I think once or twice in Valk. We don't normally kill any nightmare mobs before the MB in Valk simply due to time, it's easier to stay focused on killing NMs and getting to CC and farming later.

For CC, we usually have three stunners, with two going initially and one going after a 45 second delay. It's more important to stun at the beginning, because hate will be flying around and you do NOT want CC to move (or TP) at all. It really helps if you set a in-game time for stunning to start, and have your PLD run in and voke/invince at the same time, then DDs unload a second or so after. You want the very first thing that hits the MB to be Stun, and a PLD to gain hate before that stun wears off. If you do it right and have a decent zerg group, the fight will barely last 45 seconds and your second stunner(s) might not even have to go.

Sometimes a few moves get by regardless, there's not really much you can do if that happens, just don't panic. Unless you REALLY get boned, it's usually possible to recover if one or two nasty TP moves get off. Have your WHMs safely out of range ready to run in and Bene, that's the major recovery tactic.

A game time to begin CS Stun does help on CC, I also typically have all Blm's go with a timed ES Nuke starting before CS, that way the Blm's get in a nearly free nuke just as the CS start to land.

    Re: Dynamis Valkurm/Qufim Question

To the original question, what people have said is true, the only zone you can't farm pre-boss is Buburimu. However, in addition to the time extension, killing the boss also pops considerably more mobs. It seems to double the amount of Nightmare mobs in Valkurm, and in Qufim it pops a number of different Nightmare mobs. Also, I forget how it's divided but I'm pretty sure bats, Rocs, and Snolls have the same loot table for accessories (only 5 of the 10 available in the zone), so you'd have to kill boss to farm the others.

Also, a few posts seem to be implying that non-Nightmare mobs can drop AF-1 and accessories, which isn't true, they will drop the NQ that's associated with the zone (based on level, 71 valk, etc.)

That doesn't work on CC in Valkurm, it aggroes you the second you start casting on it. Not when the nuke lands like mobs normally do. Early on before the days of distance plugins a Dynamis LS I was in wiped to it because a mage tested casting range.

I strongly suggest to you, that you continue to attempt to beat the boss. Once you have gotten in the grove of doing it, you can take out all the mini bosses and the boss with 20 mins to spare, thus adding an 1:20 to your farming timer essentially instead of your normal 1:00 you would get if you just entered and started killing. You also have the chance of normal AF2 and 100's which others want as well.

I've debated bringing my LS into Qufim and Valkurm too. Is it actually doable to beat the boss with 2 chainstuns (going at the same time) and no KC/MK/Ridill DRKs?

Of course it is. Don't even have them CS stun at the same time. It's not necessary.

Erf I meant to add that we only really get 20/dynamis.

We did Valkurm just this past Friday with 27 (out of which seven were RDMs, it was one of those "weird" days...) and boss died in under 30 seconds. It's slightly rougher with fewer peeps (Fairy ring is always more trouble than the boss) but definitely doable. Our group isn't anywhere near the pimpest, mostly casual players with walmart gear and from Sky shells, no zerg DRKs either. But everyone 2hrs on the boss obviously. Two RDM/DRKs CS Stunned (second one started 20s after the first to get a slight overlap to make sure CC wouldn't go unstunned in the lag) and couple of good old-fashioned hundred fisting monks and few other DDs did the job nicely. As long as everyone is focused and knows what they're doing you should be able to do Valkurm with 20ish, if you can toss in a KC DRK they'd pretty much solo the boss. Same for Qufim.

20ish should be fine too. Just bring RR and make sure everyone knows what they're doing, and allow a good 10-15m for the boss to be on the safe side.

I don't remember the last loss we've had and we're doing them every Tuesday, with about 20 people and no KC DRKs or the like. We usually have one CS stun on the Qufim and Valkurm bosses, but that's about it.

    Re: Dynamis Valkurm/Qufim Question

Our LS kills these bosses with about 24 people or so, DL strat for all of them. We only have 1 ridill, 1 mandau, 1 spharai, the rest of the people just wear AH gear pretty much. RDM/DRK x 3 (1 on fairy ring, 2 on boss) 3(4 better) BRD, 4-5 BLM, the rest assortment of melees, whms, etc.
