    FFXI and SLI?

Just a quick question: Might be building a new computer for my lady and I'm wondering will FFXI have issues with video cards in SLI? A friend of mine thought he'd heard something about it and recommended I check before spending $300-400 on a setup just to have it not work. (I never have any luck with search )

Also, are there still issues with the 8xxx nvidia cards?

    Thanks.

I'm on my 2nd SLI rig and I've never had a problem with FFXI except when I decided to mess around with Vista. I went back to XP shortly there after. I'm currently using 2 x EVDA 8800 GT AKIMBO(1 GB version) cards in SLI and they run amazing.

FFXI certainly doesn't need SLI to run, it hardly makes use of any graphics card power. Personally I liked it better without SLI so I could use the second monitor to browse webpages and bring up info while playing.

Also most issues with 8 series cards and FFXI are resolved when using the 174.74 beta drivers.

Thanks for the responses. :3 Glad to hear it won't be an issue. I know FFXI doesn't really need it, though, but it probably won't be the only game on the system. Just wanted to make sure I didn't set her up with something that will keep XI from running. xD

With respect to Vista, XI does still have problems with that, then? I saw something about it in the stickies, but I think it was in the older one and I assumed that might've been resolved by now. (Sono if you're lurking, didn't you run XI on vista before?)

FFXI and Vista work, it's just sometimes people using nVidia cards run into some problems. For the most part the new drivers have done the trick but there's still a few cases out there where people still have some issues.

As far as SLI goes, it's already been mentioned you don't need for FFXI, but it's nice to have for other games and it's super easy to turn on and off. I have dual monitors and don't have my AKIMBOs in SLI when I play FFXI so that I can use both monitors for web browsing while playing or dual boxing but if I play any other game, I just switch it to SLI.

agreed, as mentioned a billion times. pointless for ffxi, but nice for having info up on one screen and ffxi on the other.
