Westwood College Online

I'm planning on going there this fall (along with my fiance) for Game Development (she's taking Game Design). Anyone on BG attend or know anyone who attends Westwood, specifically for Games Design/Development? I'm just trying to get a few opinions/suggestions before we start.

Anything we should be concerned about, any profs to avoid, *insert random college question*?

I'd avoid online colleges in general, to be completely honest.

Make sure you view everything on the largest screen possible, so you can sit way in the back of your room and simulate a real classroom.

You're better off going to a CC. I mean, have you seen those commercials for those schools? You'd think because the schools have their emphasis in graphics and design they'd be able to make some decent commercials, but damn... Also, the fact that they even advertise on TV should give you a little hint.

go to DigiPen Institute of Technology It is in Redmond, Washington. The campus is next door to Nintendo of America and across of Microsoft. I know friends who went there and got jobs at Konami and Ninteno immediately after they graduated. I will say go there. Full sail is a bad pick.

Save your money and attend a real college. This is not an investment you shouldn't take lightly or shoot for a fast-food approach.

Personally, I've never heard any good stories come out of strictly game-based courses. They're expensive, unaccredited, and they're not going to guarantee you a job when you graduate. Maybe you should research this a bit more before you jump into it.

I live in the middle of PA. I can't move to either FL or WA and both Full Sail and DigiPen were my top colleges. Right now I'm in a CC and they're fucking me up the ass and took away all my financial aid and no schools in PA have Game Design. I'm stuck going to an online college.

As an aside, they're super fucking nice. I've never seen their commercials, I heard of them through multiple Game Design textbooks.

You want to know how much US Citizens pay for tuition at Universities in other states? Three times more than the local citizens pay.

UMiami is roughly 44,000~ per semester now [Ideal expensive school in Florida], (but thats before the truckload of money they give you, so you'll only pay like, 8 grand at max a semester if you're smart). A normal public university is usually uhhhhhhhhhhh 3000 a semester. And that could be covered by a bunch of shit anyway.

Oh yeah, all state residents tuition.

Assuming you're doing full time by financial aid standards (12 hours min). Its about 9~ a semester. So yeah, still, fuck that.

I guess I've been spoiled by my country's university system.

The government pays for your tuition (not extra fees like boarding), and then when you're employed, 5% (or whatever, forgot %, but it's low) out of every payslip goes back to the government automatically via the ATO (Australian Taxation Office). The loan from the government is also interest fee, so you won't be paying more after a few years.

The only thing they really want you to pay is the student contribution which isn't more than a few thousand, and that's even deferrable.

When I signed up for uni a few months ago, I only payed an enrollment fee <_< , then I dropped out(free again!) because of a change of mind.

Universities still have the right to charge upfront for courses, but they tend to find themselves short of students

Er... I'm hoping you mean 44,000~ a year, otherwise that is complete assrape for ANY kind of college.
