    Vista SP1

    Yay or nay?
    Speed up Vista at all?
Just messing around with my mom's Vista laptop trying to clean it up and improve performance.
SP1 cause more problems or is it a solid SP?

    Re: Vista SP1

SP1 is basically a compilation of hotfixes that were all released seperately but never made a forced download through windows update. SP1 takes all of them and rolls it all into one pack, more or less. A lot of the fixes are for graphics card performance and SLI, so if those are your problems it does help a lot.

If you're having Vista performance problems a few things I'd disable is Superfetch and drive indexing, both of which can take up a lot of ram processing power. Your searches and load times will be a bit higher on things, but overall performance should improve a bit. See if it helps if your laptop is a little short specs wise.

I literally just started using Vista today.
Can you tell me where the Superfetch setting is located? Thanks.

Go to services (Start -> type "Cmd" hit enter, type "services.msc") and scroll down to superfetch. Disable it and see if things get any better.

SP1 fucked my desktop and laptop. I'm not installing them again.
