New Computer Chair..

I'm looking to buy a new computer chair, and suggestions into a good one would be appreciated. My home chair is a reclining chair which suits me nicely, but I obviously can't lug it to college with me. I've broken a chair a year at school since I enjoy leaning back, and some parts snap off or break. (My first chair actually had the steal base snap off. Anyone know of any good quality strong chairs that aren't going to break if I lean back into it?

The chair I have now is very nice and stable. I've had the same problem as you, I'd kill my chair on about a yearly basis.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a brand name or model number anywhere on it, but I do know where we got it. They use this chair for their employees behind the desk, so they should know what it is. I should reply once I find their number.

Around the ball park of $100 would be nice. I'm willing to spend a little more but I don't want to over spend on a chair.

$100 you're basically limiting yourself to the cheapest flyer discount chair from localofficechainstore you can find. Which if you get that, least get the replacement plan, cause you'll keep breaking them.

Yeah, $100 is gonna get you a shit chair.

If you have a Costco, I've seen chairs there for $150 that look not too bad, but anything really good (ergonomically or comfortably) is going to be much more expensive. You can try office furniture warehouse places, that resell the castoffs from various corporate companies, but even they are usually quite expensive (they'll sell a $600 chair for $400, say).


Also: I have the same problem justifying it too, and also have a shit $100 chair, because my mind goes "its just a chair!" But think about the long term health of your neck/back if you end up spending a lot of time in it due to work/school, and it becomes something more important that maybe you should consider.

For myself, I'll usually keep to the more budget-minded office chairs available at like Staples or OfficeMax, they typically do have good deals to go around most of the time.

The thing is, I have an expensive reclining chair at my computer desk at home. An expensive one at that. The chair I'm looking to buy would be for college use only pretty much, then collect dust when I graduate.

Buy a good chair, use it for the duration of your college stay, then CL it or ebay it. If its a good chair, it'll be in ok-great condition by then and you'll get some of your money back.

$100-$200 x2 (assuming you go through two cheap chairs over that period) is equal or less than the depreciation on good office furniture quality chairs.

More upfront but costs the same(costs *less* if you kept it 4+yrs) over time.

Resale value and depreciation is something people assuredly need to take into account more often.

Buy a 100$ chair and 400$ to computer parts.
I honestly use a shitty old chair from our last dining room table. Got cusions from pier1 (50$) and its perfectly comfortable. Good thing about it is when it gets uncomfortable, I get the fuck up and do something else ;X
