Just wondered if there were any aspiring/professional musicians on BG, if so here's a place to talk about anything pertaining to music.

I've been playing guitar (electric, classical, acoustic) for the last 8 years, nothing anything major. Played a few shows and recorded a few demos. Also play keyboards and bass, but can't play the drums for crap. Currently I'm working on an album with a direction more towards folk (akin to Empyrium, Ulver's "Kveldassanger," Tenhi, etc...) mixed with elements of Baroque and post-rock. Then a bit of black metal is thrown in, but in very non-typical ways.

Schecter C-1 Plus - Great for playing without distortion as it provides an extremely smooth, clean sound.

Ibanez RG470 (my first guitar) - Awesome guitar for thrashing with the smooth, fast action.

Crate Blue Voodoo 120 half stack amp - phenomenal clean channel, and a really dirty distortion channel.

Boss GT-6 floorboard processor.

Roland PCR-800 PC Controller - Great for connection to random programs, assigning instrument sets, and playing most anything you can imagine on a keyboard.

Then I also have random stuff like 6 Behringer microphones. My recording setup is a 16-track Behringer mixer and standard Sony miniDisc recorder for more on the fly recording. I prefer mic'ing my amp with multiple mics, and running them into separate tracks for a thicker guitar sound. Recording on miniDiscs is ideal for me because I love the quality they give. I hate playing into the computer as I'm not able to devote my focus to the recording of the sound while I'm playing a guitar.

Been playing electric (and a little acoustic) for about 6-7 years now. I've done a few recordings but nothing really note worthy, more of just my friend erasing the guitar parts form albums and me recording me playing in there. Latest one was Layla by Eric Clapton, and it sounded great.

As far as gear goes:

Fender Highway one Stratocaster-(in a green woodfinish, everyone loves the colour-ive got offered twice its value once)

Ibanez JS100- This is my favourite guitar. I wasn't a fan of signature models, but I sat down to play it in the store and it just fit like an old baseball gloves. Ever since it's been difficult for me to switch to anything else it just felt so right.

Ibanez acoustic- nothing special, cost me $300 and its value is pretty much the same.

Traynor amp- this is my dorm room secret jam tool. Its small enough I can lug it around, but has a clear enough tone that its worth keeping.

Fender 15R- this amp is great for small things. It has a big sound, and has a great tone. The mid and low range are great for creating a mid-to-heavy style sound (ie. Van Halen Panama style sound)

Ibanez Tube Screamer- best distortion pedal I have ever gotten. This baby has a really warm sound and when in sequence creates a round, high tonal sound. It was worth the money.

Boss Delay/MK-2 distortion/Chorus- simple enough

Digitech whammy- love this thing. Love the harmonizer effect.

Morley Bad horsie- great wah, big pedal so I don't have to look for it when I stomp down. Rich sound.

I've been trying to get my hands on a Gibson SG-X, but everytime there's one on eBay I'm flat broke.

My two main guitars. On the left is a Gibson Les Paul studio and on the right is a Takamine G acoustic/electric hybrid. If you're like me and you hate waiting to save up a ton of money to buy a new musical toy, look into a guitar center credit card and wait for the right time to buy, such as the Green Tag event that happens once a year. During those times you can get away with making a purchase with no payments or interest for a year. Of course, you should pay it off before the year is up, and then they'll love you and give you a bigger spending limit.

This is how I bought that acoustic, and a Fender Blues Jr. Tube amp, and a Line 6 Floor Pod. Paid each one off well before the 12 months were up and they just keep giving me more and more money to play with.

And this is my piano. A 1920's player piano that has all the hardware removed. It needs a lot of work, I think it might just be cheaper to buy a keyboard.

It's never too late to start playing... I didn't start until I was 20.

I've also been tempted to get a 7-string again (used to play an ESP 7-string), but the only one I like is a Jackson and most Jacksons have horrid neck action.

V's have always been so gross >_>. I play a little guitar and drums. Have been for maybe 4-5 years? Less on drums, but I don't really remember lol. I have such a hard time writing anything original on guitar, so I just learn songs.

I have a large collection of Lespauls dating back from the 60's and 70's that others in my family have had and given to me. One os this mint black beauty its so sweet. I'm more of a classical guitarist though, I like playing in front of an orchestra, so my classical guitars range from 1k-5k models. Most are gifts or rewards though. Also I have quite a few Cello's and a Viola which I used to play at a professional level.

I stop going to competitions and playing with pro's because I don't like to take my work home with me, I find it a way to relax and enjoy myself so it's not something I could do and consider "work". That's why I'm getting into medicine.

Since most of you are probably more interested in the electrics and nothing else, I'll name a few outside the les paul collection.

Jackson USA Soloists, I have 2 of these.
Ibanez RG, only one.
and a few others I putz around on, I stick to USA made models pretty much only.

If I record, I do it at my friends studio (since it's free) but the only problem with that is I like my voice and like to sing while having him play instead, and I don't want to go back down the route of playing at shitty bars and clubs and spots again. I've been in music for as long as I can remember. I play pretty much every instrument except for percussion (minus piano, i play piano).

My first guitar was a Les Paul. I had such a bad experience with it I refuse to ever pick up another again. It had a horrible sound, and the strings kept breaking with almost no effort. The neck was also really fat and it just made me want to burn it every time I picked it up.

Started with the whole band recruitment thing. Played percussion for the past 10 years, (I'm 22 now.) Trying to save up for a decent electronic kit so I get more opportunities to sit in front of a kit without annoying the hell out of my roommate and neighbors, (even though that's fun as hell.)

Picked up guitar when I was 14. I took lessons for about 2 years and just took when I learned from there. I started taking lessons again about a year ago because I hit a rut in my playing.

My junior year of high school I started taking piano lessons because I decided I wanted to major in music and I started taking music theory classes. Figured it was important, haha.

As far as gear goes, nothing special:

As far as amps, I play mostly through my Line 6 Spider 212 combo. I found it at a pawn shop for 200 bucks and I love the thing. Also I have a little 15 watt Peavey practice amp when I'm trying to be quiet.

Nothing too intricate, I don't have the money to get the things I really want.

Professional musician. I DJ for 4 bars, as well as private gigs on a consistant basis as a side business. I also produce electronic music for various events or organizations for their reasons of needing it.

I work for Coors Brewing Company in marketing during the day, but I DJ at night for the extra cash and love for music.

I DJ 5 nights a week, some nights just spinning music at bars, some saturdays doing private events (weddings, dances, sweet 16's etc.) and also MC'ing/hosting Trivia at bars.

I was the drummer of a band for 7 years, but never made a dime from it. I pull in about 1000 a week just DJ'ing on the side. Never looked back. Been DJ'ing for about 4 years and dont plan on stopping.

Music pays my bills.

Battle Mixer, but I run video through it too. Amazing EQ, and I'm an audiophile so the highs and lows are something I actually pay attention to, in every track and in every mix. DJ's take note.

ESP LTD B-205FM Fretless. Five string fretless so I can pretend I'm superior to every other bass player I know. I've been playing this bass a good six years now, three of them with frets and three without. Much prefer it without; the degree of control you gain when the only things between the strings and sound is your own flesh is uncanny. The lack of frets means I can't play it that well while drunk though; more's the pity.

Not pictured: Black Epiphone Les Paul, 4-string no-name fretless bass, much-played short scale fretted bass with so many stickers on it that I can't tell what company made it in the first place, Jazz size double bass which I really don't get to play enough, Boss ME50B bass effects pedal, and an ancient Ashdown bass amp that's gone out of production and is about five minutes from dying.
