    New Slipknot CD

No, I'm not a Slipknot fan. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a fan when they came out with their first 2 CDs. though. I chalk it to my youth.

So I'm on itunes and see an advertisement for Slipknot's new CD "All Hope is Gone" and I think, "wow I haven't listened to them in years" and decide to see where they're at now. Holy shit. It was ironic, they have become the type of band that they hated and bitched about so many years ago. It's pathetic how the dollar can be so quick to change someones opinion. The evolution of people=shit to radio poprock.

Hey man, pig-masks and giant unnecessary percussion instruments don't grow on trees.

Can you honestly say you're surprised? At least they still cling to some sound they used to have (granted not much, and it's apparently only during parts of a song at best). If you really want to hear a grand example of how people will whore themselves just for the money listen to the musical progression of Eighteen Visions. I'd recommend just listening to two songs from each of their albums, and in the order they were released. You'll see the most embarrassing fucking "musical growth" you could imagine for a band that claims they're still "just doing the same music they always have."

I was a huge Slipknot fan when the first album came out, every song was great, 2nd album came out.. and yeah.. it was ok, but fewer good songs. 3rd album now, listened to it twice now.. and it sucks balls. Cory is trying to completly envelope his shitty stone sourness into slipknot. Slipknot is no where near how good they used to be, where the fuck did all the anger and rage, and hardcore metalness go?

Am I getting wooshed if I say it's their 4th album (Slipknot, Iowa, Subliminal verses, All hope is gone) ? >.> I used to listen to Slipknot like 7 years ago just after Iowa's release. I still followed their evolution album after album, and yeah, the awesomeness I used to feel listening to them just disappeared. They're kinda like a random metal band now, to me at least. :/

Ohhhhh man. Stone Sour is such a better band than Slipknot ever was. It really showcases Corey's vocals as a singer and Jim Root's talent on guitar.

Don't get me wrong I loved the first Slipknot album, but with each subsiquent album I found myself liking them less and less. Then I heard Stone Sour, and loved both of their albums so far.

2 different types of music, one is stoner chill back music, other is hard core fuckum up goddamn i hate the world head banging metal. Though the later is now pretty moot.

Kinda figured this album wouldn't be nearly the same level as older slipknot albums, since they've basically said they're all working on their own separate things now/after this one. Just about every band that starts out all hard changes like this these days though. The only ones that don't really seem to change much are some of the ones from the 80's.

Metal bands are generally selling out, making their music less hard and more appealable to a wider audience of listeners, generally though its not the musicians fault, its the record labels who listen to their sample tracks, and say thats the kind of sound we really want from you.

eventually all bands sell out, look at metallica.

they really are sounding more and more like a general metal band.
self titled one is still one of my favorite CDs ever though. Ive got the version with 19songs on it that inclused some remixes and songs they remade from feed.mate.kill.repeat and their 2nd demo.

One thing I can say I like how metal is going nowadays is that a lot of them have started to take lessons from Melissa Cross. And so they've started learning how to scream properly, so they aren't destroying their throats, but you can now understand what they're saying even though it's still in a death scream or whatever kind of scream they do.

Not to be a dick, but "learning how to scream properly" is as stupid as it sounds. If you need to "learn to scream" you're doing something terribly fucking wrong. I can't speak on metal, or for anyone that enjoys real metal because I'm not that into it, but at least for hardcore, the sound of a good singer, and the sound of a raw scream is what brings part of the emotion that's brought in through the music. Chaotic sound, raspy vocals, who really cares if have a clear understanding of everything being said the first time through, as long as you get a solid sound, that's what matters. These aren't boy bands, and after any given show any one of these singers knows what they've gotten themselves into.

Actually, learning how to scream means you don't just start yelling like anybody could do. Screaming for years and years the "normal" way destroys your voice, but with the right technique it can preserve your voice for a long time, so you can keep doing it.
