    Persistant POL 1160 Error

So, it's been about a month now, and I haven't been able to log onto FFXI. It started August 27/28 and should have ended September 30. I will wait a couple more days (I'm pretty patient), before I take any drastic measures, but has anyone had this problem before? My internet is fine, and I checked with my ISP, and they aren't blocking any ports or connections. My account is still active and I've been paying for a month that I couldn't play in.

Any tips on what to do? I responded to a topic of this about one month ago, but people told me to wait, so I waited a month.

Try using another ISP (for instance, lolfreedialup or wifi at a coffee shop)
Also check to see if you have the ports opened up on your router (method varies by router...)

However, the ports that need to be opened are:

    TCP: 50000-65535, 110, 443, 80, and 25
    UDP: 50000-65535

    This should help.

The only way to bypass this error is to use another ISP? It's going to be hard to do because my home is fiber optic wired by KT, my current ISP, and will cost a couple hundred dollars to do.

If your router has the ports opened I suggested and you still have 1160's, then yes, the issue is with your ISP interfacing with POL. If opening the ports I listed solves your problems, congrats and enjoy the game. Using another ISP is a good way to *isolate* the symptoms. If you can use a freebie dialup or wifi connection and NOT have the problems, then that removes your computer and its software from the symptom tree. HOWEVER, if the issue repeats itself on another ISP, that means the issue could be in your system.

Ergo, freebie internet try is good. Helps eliminate problems.
Panicking before reading what I said after *TRY* another ISP ("For instance, lolfreedialup or wifi at a coffee shop") is bad. The vast majority of systems have modems for dialup (and I assume you have a phone line?) or have wifi cards if they are a laptop (local coffee shop wifi hot spot). Do this before fiddling with your router since that is the easiest step, and would make certain it's not a *system* issue but a network issue

Well, thanks anyways for your help. I just decided to use a proxy server since it probably is an ISP/POL interface problem. I opened the ports, but it didn't work, but a proxy server works so I guess I'll stick to what works.

I have the same problem when trying to download the most recent update.

    POL-1160
Network is busy or there are connection problems. Please try again later or verify that cables, networking devices, and network settings are properly configured.

    D: patch.txt
edit: fucking smileys. no space between colon and "p".
edit2: not that it really matters.
edit3: i forgot to say this... the update always stops at 18% of the first of the four files. (Downloading patch.txt).
