Can you tell if someone buys gil?

Out of curiosity, I was wondering how many people assume or accuse other people of buying gil based off the AH purchases on FFXIAH.com I feel bad for accusing someone of such a thing but when I see 1.8 million gil spent in less than 24 hours who has absolutely no sale huge sale history or no crafting it makes you wonder. What are your thoughts?

Well it depends in where the person stands. I have no craft but made lots of gil on ZNMs from non AH able items like hachiryu legs and feet. Sold an antares on top.

There prolly were flowing over 70 mil gil to me over Battalia basar that never would show up on FFXI AH.

Basically if it seems that they come into gil out of nowhere on a routine basis (i.e. able to buy enough currency to upgrade relics without farming, crafting, or anything of that sort) then it tends to throw up a flag. The same happens with situations like you suggested, especially if you verify that they don't do anything in game that logically explains such an influx of gil.

Exactly, okay so it isn't wrong of me to assume that lol. I saw this guy who literally does nothing in game but annoy people buy a Genie Weskit a week or two ago, the turns right around selling absolutely nothing and buys another 1.8 million worth of gear. Yeah that's not suspicious at all >_>

Just be careful assuming Is he in your LS? Maybe his LS does bank payouts, etc. Lots of ways to get untrackable gil, even if he is annoying.

And if he does buy, just the way he chooses to "play," I guess. Not much you can do about it.

I'd have to agree with Lyramion that it's really hard to tell. If you look at my AH account, I've made ~5k and spent ~3k of it in the past week, but I'm sitting on ~30M at least.

For example, I mostly do piddly shit crafting on my characters that most people could do with lowbie crafts (<60) and still profit. I use a friend's THF to farm. I know what NPCs for good money - either stuff bought on AH and sold to vendor for profit, or farmed/synthed and NPCd for profit. It's all stuff that really doesn't show up on the AH and if it does, I usually use mules to sell it.

I'm sure I'd be accused of buying gil more often if most people in my ls didn't know how much of a nut I was about little things making money =X

At the same time you are correct to assume someone buying a lot of expensive items might be buying gil. Back in 06 a friend sold his account a week later I see him on and its the guy who bought it. The guy spent over 21mil on stuff like dusk gear ice shield and jeweled collar +1 all for his rdm.

You also have to think they might have a mule they sell stuff on. I used to get so lazy in game I would send stuff to my mule from whitegate to sell on my jeuno mule to save myself a trip.

It also depends on how long they've been playing the game. I sat on the money I made back in 2004-2005 for two years and basically did nothing to generate income, but now I'm broke again. I'd still be sitting on it if I didn't upgrade a salvage body.

    I find that unless you know everything about a particular character (including mules names and such), it's difficult to say for sure if s/he is a gil buyer or not. For instance, many people use mules to sell stuff with lower fees in Jeuno, some prefer to level crafts on mules, and others have been sitting on money made long ago (think winter 2005 inflation). I, for one, do all three, so even though, to the outsider's eye, my main character doesn't seem to sell much, I do, in fact, sit on a nice little ever growing cushion ^^;

I also had the case were people return to the game after they quit somewhere 2005 and going "WTH SHs only 200k?? I sold all my shit back then before I quit - I´m rich!!!!111"

Are you certain he has no crafting mules? No access to other accounts?

My crafting mules have airship passes, access to ToAU, etc. They personally sell everything they make (which is a damned lot, I keep them busy) and send all the money to me. I've had people ask multiple times how I can buy so much when I appear not to farm or do anything to make it. (I finally hid my FFXIAH.com history to stop people from asking so much.)

LS payouts, ENM groups where one person acts as the AH guy, KS/BCNM with the same set up.. My AH history looks like I'm running on maxed out credit cards and no income, but I manage to get buy.

If you want to know who is buying gil check the Imperial Wootz Ingot record and look for the JP person that buys them 12 in a row at 100k above the going rate.

could have just had a friend quit and decided to buy some toys with the gil he was given. someone with some planning or just some meiserly tendencies could easily have saved millions from the hyperinflationary periods too and be sitting on a ton of cash. or they could have just done a BC and gotten their payout. there are a lot of viable methods for this player to have generated that cash so jumping to the gilbuyorz conclusion is a bit hasty.

By the time it takes 7 stacks of "whatever" to sell on the AH I can NPC 100 of them. If you don't craft or get big ticket items to sell, it's the best way to make money.

AH history alone is no way to tell.

Funny how something completely viable is an excuse when you're predisposed to think so.

I never sell over 500k on the AH, always shout so you would see gil not going into my char that may be spent later. Spend a lot of time camping minor NMs as in Serket, Amemet, ect. Also do things like ENMs and get payouts from 2 of my LS. When I do get around to farming, its mainly Beastblood, which is NPC'd at 6.5k/stack' so you wont' see as much money coming in than going out, but thats besides the point because my ffxi ah account only shows the last 5 sales, lol

Rare ex items like Haidates, Bahamut gears, Abjs, etc... are multimillion gils transactions that bypasses the AH. Sup 20M hauteclaire, 10M Abody, etc...

As mentioned, other big ticket items aren't usually sold on AH either like Dusk+1, Gaiters, Novios, Unicorn+1, w/e shit.

Imo, there are more gils being changed hands OUTSIDE of AH, than the ones you see on AH.

AH is not at all as transparent as it seems, period.

I like collecting assorted junk over time... 8 stacks of insect wings, 3 dozen beetle jaws, 4 dozen treant bulbs. Just dbox them to alts as I get them. Then one day try to clean up some room and make something profitable out of them. Possibly hang onto them for weeks to sell; but its on an alt's AH listing probably not jeuno. Dont need the cash right now so as long as it sells eventually its profit.

My one alt has maxed storage. I have everything seperated into 3 categories "full stacks/unstackable, metalics/alchemic/non-organic, organics". Toss the item in, hit sort; if nothing moves I go see why (could be completed a stack or a completly new item) then move appropriatly.
