    HDMI and FFXI Crash

I recently bought a new TV/monitor with HDMI cables, so I decided to switch over to HDMI to improve the video quality versus my VGA connection I had been using. The result isn't a huge and dramatic change, but it's enough to make me notice and enjoy it.

Anyway, I used to (with the VGA) be able to switch inputs back and forth on my TV/monitor, but now Final crashes anytime I try to do that with the HDMI.

Is this just something I have to deal with, or is there something I can do to let me change inputs while Final is running?

Changing inputs resets the resolution briefly (when you see the screen turn black and flicker) - which 100% of the time will crash FFXI. There's nothing you can do about it.

I noticed a similar thing with DVI. My monitor has DVI and VGA input that you can swap between, which I've done before when I've been working on a second machine for some reason (in this case, new computer build). Doing it like that, FFXI is fine. Lately though, I've used the VGA cable to hook up my HTPC. So instead of grabbing that cable, I was just swapping the DVI cable between the two machines. When the cable was disconnected from the machine that FFXI was running on, the game would crash.

So it could be the reset in resolutions, or it could be that HDMI doesn't "maintain" that there's a connection present. Either one would crash FFXI.
