Computer's A: drive making a wierd sound..

So yeah, I'm posting from the computer now, but my comp's floppy disk drive, i believe, won't stop making this annoying sound. is it possible to remove it? i never used it, but wouldn't want to potentially fuck up something in my comp.

Yeah you should be able to remove a floppy drive w/o any major impacts on the rest of the system, that is assuming you never use the floppy for anything important

Heck, you don't even have to completely remove it if you don't want to go to the trouble. Just open up the computer's case and remove the power cord from the back of the drive.

It's constantly making the sound? That sounds like it's accessing itself non-stop. Is there any disk in there? If you've never used it, I'd imagine not.

You can just disconnect the floppy disk drive by opening your computer and pulling the cable out of it, or you can disable it in your BIOS. The latter won't require opening up your machine, and the former may give you an error on startup (which you can bypass with a single key press). Both of these are relatively simple tasks, but you may not want to do them if you're not very comfortable with working on a computer.

Try to just disable it from Device Manager and see if that solves it for now.

And is there a disk inside? =p

actually i shut down / unplugged the floppy disk drive and it didnt do anything. i believe now that it is the hard drive... maybe it has too much dust on it or something? anyway its coming from the front of my computer and i know its not the cd/floppy drives now ._. any suggestions?

If your hard disk drive (AKA "HDD") is making that much noise, it is going to break down soon. Back up all of your important data and brace yourself, as you'll likely have to replace it in the near future.

What does it sound like? Is it a "clink clink clink" or something along those lines? It could be something harmless (e.g., a wire hitting a fan's plastic blades), but you should back up all your sensitive data just in case.

Record the noise for us if you got a mic, and apart from usual background noise we should be able to pick up the odd noise here and there.
