    Random PC problems

Got a new pc a bit ago, etc etc.

Anyway, I randomly lose internet on it every few days. Every other PC here stays on, but I slowly start to DC and it requires a complete restart. I have no idea what it is, seeing as how I downloaded the new drivers not too long ago.

Also, whenever I turn my PC on, it randomly doesn't show anything on the screen. It's also a new monitor and pretty sure it's my computer but.. when windows completely loads it's completely black and has to be restarted. Coupled with the above problem, it becomes a big pain in the ass having to restart a bunch at random.

    Any ideas?

    Could be bad motherboard?
Could be a lot of things >.> But with a range of problems like that I'd place my bets on a faulty motherboard.

Hmm I dunno. I was thinking it might be monitor drivers? When I turn my monitor on after coming home or whatever, sometimes it wont display anything either. So I have to turn it off and on a few times. Piece of crap. D:

The monitor issue sounds like a video card problem, have you updated your drivers? Or try a different monitor to test if its the cause or not?

As for your internet, how are you connecting? Wired/wireless? What kind of adapter are you using?

It's wired. No idea on the adapter cause I'm at work atm. How would I check it?

I'll try the monitors when it breaks again.

This is happening to me too. I'm wired, and using a Netgear wireless router. I'm one of three connections, and it just randomly drops me, and will keep the wireless.
I've updated my LAN drives and all that.

Configure your pc to use a static IP address instead of relying on your router to set it for you. might clear it up.

    for xp
PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall

    for vista

if anything goes wrong, just set both options back to obtain automatically.

All the other wired lines stay on. When I go to ipconfig it gives me some weird error I never really see before so I just end up restarting.

Did you try setting it to a static IP? Also, by any chance could those connections dropping be when a PS3 / 360 is signing in?

if everything intermittently has a problem in the pc... video card not sending signal... windows not being able to boot... lan disconnecting randomly.. Then the first thing i would test would be the power supply. Just check the voltage in the bios (to start) or download speedfan or some other program to display real time voltage changes. If you have a multimeter, those are better and much more accurate.

It could be a motherboard crapping out, but i've seen more psu's die than mobos..

I don't have either of those systems, and yeah it should be a static IP. I cant even renew my ip in ipconfig, it just gives me a weird error. I'll write it down the next time I see it but it wouldn't work.

Well it's a new pc, so I hope it isn't all broke already. How do I check voltage? Im not sure if its the vid card because sometimes the monitor just needs to be turned on/off a few times for it to work.. so maybe it's a shitty monitor? I havn't had the DC problem since I made this post so I havn't had a chance to test these errors yet. :/

push delete at startup to get to bios menu.. depending on which bios you have, pc health status, or something similar... should show you the voltages. Keep in mind that you dont have much load at that point, so any large number.. like a 13.xx, 11.xx, 3.5+ or 3.2- is bad and will be much more apparent later when a device using said rails tries to draw more power. Its worth looking at.

Ok I just dced. The monitor worked fine so no info about that but.. I wrote down what the weird error was. I got this message when I tried to type ipconfig and even when I tried to alt-control-delete. It said:

The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application.

    Any ideas? Since I got it when I tried to alt-ctr-delete then maybe it's not an internet problem? >.>;

thats either a ram latency error or a dma conflict error caused by bad or uninstalled drivers. Check to make sure all of your drivers are up to date... If you dont know which motherboard it is, download this ~> |MG| AIDA32 - Personal System Information 3.93 ... then update everything. That should fix any application initilization errors.

It saids Motherboard Name: Unknown. D:
It has an ID though: 05/28/2008-P43-ICH10-7A89PG0FC-00

    Front Side Bus Properties
    Bus Type Intel GTL+
    Bus Width 64-bit
    Real Clock 343 MHz
    Effective Clock 343 MHz
    Bandwidth 2743 MB/s

Is there a way to update all my drivers this way? I remember I had alot of problems with my video card, so I had to go back to my old drivers.

    check event viewer for errors.

Click Start, and then click Control Panel. Click Performance and Maintenance, then click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Computer Management.

Should see something in application, system or security logs.
