Federal Pel Grant

So, I go to my college today to apply for a student loan and the lady tells me that I qualify for 3k in pel grant and will be receiving so. My question is, do they keep track in what you spend or can I buy w/e I want with it? My classes this semester will run me about 1.2 grand and with bopks probably about 1.5k grand, leaving me with plenty left over. My question is what am I allowed to do with this money, if anything, or do they keep track of it or just take back what I don't use towards school?

To sum it up, what are the tax payers buying me ^.^

The way mine worked was they actually payed the remainder of what was left of what i needed before I seen a penny of the cash, then the remainder of the cash they cut me a check for.

Like Vandole, my grant will be in the form of my school's debit card.
I should be able to use it freely then? If so, I'll be hitting newegg up and building a new PC.

Pretty much what they stated above. My college waited until a week or two after the semester begins, where you would already have any bookstore charges or class charges, then sent you a refund check for the remaining aid.

This. All together I had 4.8 grand to spend after my tuition and crap got paid off. Gonna put it towards a car and save some of it for summer.

Fuck yea, gonna talk to my financial aid person to double check i'm allowed to spend money (but will use some example like if i'm hungry on campus and have no cash, could i use the card for non school related charge to buy the food?) and if she says yes, its time for a new PC

xD yea, and I sure am tired of this damned pentium 4 2.8 ghz processor >.> I get 100% on the damn processor just by having ffxi and youtube up at the same time and can't even play them in youtube's new HD w/o laggin a storm.


Edit: Oh, and another question. Is fed. pell grant a one time thing or is it something I can keep getting as long as I apply and meet the qualifications?

Not sure if there's a time-limit, but I had the full amount for 12 semesters (B.S. + Master's). I know there was the full-time + G.P.A. requirement.

Man, I had some similar to this happen to me when I transferred from the jr. college I was going to to the private college I went to. I transferred in between the fall and spring semesters, and at the time there was a state grant in Texas called the Texas Equalization Grant. Pretty much it was just a grant that you got if you went to a private school to offset the difference in the cost of tuition.

Anyways, I got like 1500 back at the end of the spring semester. It was nice to buy a new computer with.

I think the requirements in KY are the 2.5 or higher GPA and a certain income level (I'm not sure what the number is). I did lose my Pell grant after my year in UofL, when I pretty much bombed every course. I just started getting it again, and basically they put whatever is left into your bank account here. I think I'm gonna end up having to actually pay into the school this semester though D:
